Bates Colliery
Bates Colliery, Blyth, Northumberland
A message from Eric Thompson..........
Hi! Here is a picture from Bates’ Pit 1951.
My Grandfather was 15 yrs old in this pic. He’s front row 4th in from the left (as we look at it)
His name is Jackie Thompson.
He can only recollect one gentleman, back row, 2nd from the left as Jimmy Oats.
Jackie worked at the mine from ‘51-53
His father used to work there aswell, he was also called Jackie Thompson, he was a Stoneman, working from ‘47/48 until the mid fifties.
If anyone has anymore information about this picture, or Even better remembers Jackie, I’d love to hear from you!
Thanks!
Ps, I’m aware that there’s plenty of pages related to the northern mines, so please share away!
