Wishing you all a happy new year. Lets see what 2024 holds

If you follow a small business you will see at least one post asking you to share their posts, hit like or wow or heart. You will either happily do that or ignore it.

But why do we constantly ask you do this?

The social media algorithm’s like interactions, and they reward you for interactions by showing your post to more people, even if that person does not follow you. You know those posts you see from businesses you have not followed? You either like what you see, and after it has shown up in your feed about 10 times you click and follow or you hate it and click show less often.

The algorithm’s also like consistency, they wants us to post a LOT. The more you post the more they will show your posts to others. The problem with this, for a small businesses is that most of us work all day either in the business we are posting about or in a day job, and I don’t know about other business owners but I am tired. Tired of needing to post 3-4 times a day to try to generate interactions to keep the algorithm’s happy so more people see my posts to hopefully get one extra follower who may be interested in what I sell. Tired from working all day. Tired of being on a pc 8 hours at work then 3-4 hours of an evening at least and most the weekend.

I have 496 followers on facebook. If I post about products I get maybe one or two likes, but if I post about my dog I get more. I don’t know if my posts are only reaching about 10 people based on this or if 400 odd people are seeing them and are not interested.

So I am going to ask something strange, I’m not going to ask you to share this post, I’m not going to ask you to like it. I am going to hope you have taken a few minutes to read this and if you have, and if you are not interested in what I have to say and sell, please unfollow my page.

I don’t know enough about the algorithm, but I suspect that if I have a large number of followers and they don’t interact, that is not helping either.
