Tarnauss - Chains and Mail

I spend a lot of time making chainmail armour and jewellery and will consider all reasonable requests. Ask me for a price before buying anywhere else.

Couldn't decide on black or gold colour to go with the stainless steel. So I went with both.

Been playing around with the colour combinations, whilst I have a little spare time between orders.
Byzantine weave is definitely one of my favorites.

Todays custom order request is complete and I even had the presence of mind to take some work in progress photos. A heavy duty copper anklet with a solid copper fastener. My customer bought one last year after suffering from joint pain for years, and now she wants another for the other ankle.

On a theme with yesterday's post this is also neither a chain nor mail. Custom made to fit, part of the Geomancer order I am currently working on.

Sometimes I take a break from making chains and work on something different.
What we should name it? It's a custom order for a larp enthusiast who plays a Geomancer character, hence the patterns.

This has taken some considerable time, mainly due to interruptions with garden DIY projects and orders for other chains coming in thick and fast.

Jens Pind Linkage
Example is in Brass.
0.8mm gauge, 2.5mm rings (id)

I wanted to try and make a very fine chain, the slenderest possible with my current wire (0.8mm). I decided to use Jens Pind Linkage as it has a small aspect ratio.
I needed to create a new maderil first, 5 minuites later and one wire coathanger less, and I was underway. I think the ID is around 2.5mm.
I am going to extend this to a collar length necklace and use a different weave as a focal point. More to follow in the next few days.

My latest project includes my first use of AA rings, as gifted by my daughter for my recent birthday. I found them a little slippery at first and being a left handed coiler they were opened in the wrong direction for me too!
I can see why people use them though, the colour and finish is great; these are from TRL, but bought from a UK eBay seller. The number of possibilities for colour patterns is probably infinite, at least it seems that way for somebody who has only worked with the base metal colours, plus black.

About 2 years ago a very creative customer approached me with some design ideas regarding chainmail necklaces. I made 3 for her in a short space of time including, this simple yet beautifully elegant ‘ribbon necklace’. This was followed over the next year by a couple of bracelets and a pair of shoulder epaulets. Fast-forwards to present day and the same customer has been back in touch, this time asking me to give the ribbon necklace a makeover, as she had hardly worn it. So after a very brief discussion the ribbon necklace was returned and with a little work and very luckily some metal from the same batch, the ribbon necklace is now what is sometimes known as an infinity necklace or a mother and daughter necklace.
I was over the moon to see the original necklace back on my table again, in exactly the same pristine condition that I had sent it out back in 2018. I’m even happier sending it back out to her renewed and remade as a new chain.

Got my Full Persian bracelet finished today, at long last! Today's model needed some cheering up and a little TLC. I have also asked Her Majestey if she would kindly help demonstrate the scale of this latest endeavour.

My current work in progress is taking forever. These rings are tiny for me to work with and the AR is right on the limit. I made the mistake of not checking all 4 sides and then found a misplaced ring almost dead center of the chain. So naturally I had to go and strip it all out and start back from the middle again. Can't face anymore for today, so back on it tomorrow.

I've been so busy experimenting with new weaves and ring combinations over the weekend that I just haven't had time to update the store page.
