St. Edmund and St. Patrick Catholic Parish Bolton
Roman Catholic Church, part of the Salford Diocese situated in Bolton town centre .
As we progress on our synodal journey with theme gatherings starting next month, we pray this prayer by Saint Augustine of Hippo whose feast we celebrate today.
We ask for the help of the Holy Spirit as we work together to discern God's call for us as a diocese. Saint Augustine, pray for us.
After a summer of unrest, Bishop John has shared a pastoral letter, inviting us to reflect on the ways in which we can help build hope and take action within our own parishes and wider communities.
You can read his letter in full or listen to a recording by visiting https://dioceseofsalford.org.uk/building-hope-and-taking-action/
This week we pray for the people of the parish of The Holy Infant and St. Anthony, Astley Bridge, Fr. Kieran Anderson, SDB, and Fr. Gerard O’Shaughnessy, SDB, and the Salesian Community, as well as their parish primary school and Thornleigh College.
Recently new tests confirmed what many Catholics have long believed: the Shroud of Turin dates back 2,000 years, to the time of Christ. Every indication is that it is the authentic burial cloth of Our Lord.
Now someone has used AI to assist in making a more detailed—and frankly stunning—image of Our Lord based on the image found on the Shroud.
God became a particular man at a particular moment in history; let us rejoice in the Incarnation!
Join us on Sunday 8 September as young adults from across the diocese gather together for our Diocesan Mass for Young Adults.
Fr Michael Deas will preside and preach this month, before introducing us to a fantastic guest speaker to deliver the first of a series of talks based on G K Chesterton’s “Orthodoxy”. The series will unpick how an exploration of religious, philosophical, social, and political ideas leads us to embrace our Christian faith.
Mass begins at 5.30pm at St Augustine’s in Manchester. All are welcome!
On today's memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we share this profound quote by St. Alphonsus Liguori:
"Mary is a Queen. And, for our consolation, we ought to remember that she is a most tender and kind Queen, eager to help us in our miseries".
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! Pray for us.
Don't miss out! ⏰
The deadline is fast approaching for this fantastic opportunity to join our team! The closing date for applications is Tuesday 20th August.

The commemoration of the death of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the Dormition, or falling asleep, as it was known in the East) is known as the Assumption because of the tradition that her body did not decay but that she was raised up, body and soul, into heaven. This tradition was already present in the sixth century; by the beginning of the twentieth century it was widespread; and after consulting the views of bishops all over the world, the Pope formally and infallibly declared the doctrine of the Assumption to be part of the authentic and ancient doctrine of the universal Church.
Today is the Feast Day of St Maximilian Kolbe, a Saint we can all take inspiration from. Why not take a moment to learn a little more about this courageous Saint who showed compassion as true Christian and gave up his life to save a stranger?
Today we celebrate the feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe.
The Amazing Story of Maximilian Kolbe (and Why it Matters Now, More Than Ever) In a world twisted with racism, hatred and religious persecution, the life—and death—of Maximilian Kolbe provides answers to those wishing to resist evil.
Mass time for the Holy Day of Obligation below.

We mark the Feast of the Transfiguration of The Lord today by sharing a photo of this beautiful stained-glass window at St Chad's, in Cheetham Hill.
As we celebrate this remarkable feast today, we pray the words of Pope Francis, that by the help of the Holy Spirit we may "ascend with prayer, always listening to Jesus and descend with brotherly love, proclaiming Him to the world around us".
In his homily today, Father Michael spoke to us all about the importance of the Eucharist in our daily lives.
So I leave you with this prayer this evening.
Heavenly Father, as I prepare to rest tonight, I give You thanks for the gift of the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith. Through this sacred sacrament, Your Son Jesus Christ offers Himself to us, nourishing our souls and strengthening our spirits.
Amen
