A consumer unit replaced today, the old consumer unit offered no RCD protection (something which will stop you receiving a fatal shock should you be unfortunate enough to get one).
New consumer unit has overload and rcd protection (RCBO’s) as well as having a surge protection device built in which in the event of an overvoltage occurring will protect all your electronics and appliances from being destroyed.

If you are planning on getting any electrical work done please make sure that they are registered with either Napit or NICEIC and fully qualified.

We were recently asked to carry out an EICR after another electrician had recently replaced the consumer unit at the property and left it in a mess with lots of issues which have now been rectified.

Photos below show some additional work completed at the property which involved re-wiring the supply to an outhouse and installing a new consumer unit, socket and light.

Did you know over half of all accidental domestic fires in the UK are caused by electricity.
Most of these are caused by electrical products either through misuse or faults.

Before plugging your appliances in for use, check flexible cables for damage wear and tear, and that the plug is fastened securely to the cable. Do not use the appliance unless it and it's cable are in good condition.

We’ve been very busy lately helping people with flood damaged properties which is obviously not surprising due to the flooding surrounding us but we have still had time this week to complete two consumer unit changes, testing and inspecting two properties (EICR), installing an extract hood, installing new smoke alarms, servicing old storage radiators, installing outdoor sockets and adding additional sockets within houses.

Consumer unit change today for another local customer, all holes at the rear of consumer unit are filled with fire sealant, RCBO protection and surge arrester fitted as standard with all our installs.

Surge protective device - in the situation where an over voltage occurs further upstream of your installation your electronics and appliances will be protected.
RCBO - a protective device incorporating both over-current protection and rcd protection, all type A (18th edition) 30ma so if your were ever unfortunate to receive an electric shock this device will limit the amount of current you will receive and switch off before you go into cardiac arrest (life saver).

No electrical work for Matt today, this is the third plastering job in three weeks so it seems to be a regular thing now.
A previous customer asked for a quote to install kitchen ceiling and skim, plasterboard installed, 200mm insulation on top, loft hatch made wider, light and heat detector re-instated then skimmed finish.
Very happy with the result.

After completing an electrical installation condition report on this domestic installation we found many issues with the consumer unit, one big concern was that it’s 3phase (400v) and the door was unable to be secured in place.
The new consumer unit as always is compliant with the latest regulations, has type A rcbo protection and contains a surge protective device which will protect your appliances should an over-voltage situation ever occur.

After testing this installation we became aware of many issues with this old consumer unit, we installed a new consumer unit with type A rcbo protection providing a much safer installation, we also moved it to a new location so it’s now easy to access.

Another consumer unit change for a repeat client, this brings their installation up to date with current regulations, fitted with type A RCBO’s, surge protection to avoid damage to their electronics in case of an over voltage, metal cased consumer unit and all holes sealed with fire sealant to avoid the spread of fire if the worst should ever happen.

We were working at a dentists in Lincoln today.
We moved the power supply for the X-ray and cut it in on the existing worktop up-stand, also extended the switch and moved it to the end of the units for the new X-ray machine.
