Photo below from one of my last cuts at the end of October last year, I recall it being wet then too!

Before and after photos of a recent tree job we completed, giving a large willow tree a full prune. We removed some rotten sections of the upper trunk too, making it safer and preserving the life of the tree. A lovely sunny and still day for it!

Our first cut of 2024 completed last weekend, thankfully before the weather turned wet once again.

The grass has been greening up and growing with the daytime temperatures hitting double figures.

Today I was really pleased to be admitted to the Chartered Institute of Horticulture, this membership demonstrates our professionalism to the service and commitment to ongoing training and CPD.

Lucy’s Lawns and Landscapes is really pleased to have taken on the contract for The Pilgrim School at Amber Hill, making us an official supplier to Lincolnshire County Council schools.

We enjoyed a day there in the sunshine last week making a start on the grounds and playing field, in particular getting the area around the war memorial ready for this weeks remembrance service.

Mid October and the grass has still been growing thick and fast.

This 4 acre sports field we maintain is still looking green and lush after it’s weekly cut. The cold nights now will start to slow things down a little.

A recent conifer hedgecut, we were really lucky with the sunshine after all the rain this week ☀️

The job goes so much better with the sun out and a lovely customer who kept us well supplied with teas and snacks.

A recent hedge top reduction, taking a third from the overall height to make the hedge more manageable for the owner in the future.

I often forget the before photo but I remembered here. We started the morning in bright sunshine and ended the day in heavy rain. It’s been that kind of a year.

Moles have caused a real mess at one site last week. There was 3 different runs however I found some really good tunnels to trap in. I set the traps Friday evening and by Saturday lunch I had caught the culprit. No new hills have appeared so it looks to be a lone mole.

Here we have the final cut this evening at the Giles Academy before sports day on Friday. The ground is looking in good order, helped with the recent rain and weekly mowing.

Being a small company we are able to give a bespoke service and work with the schools groundsmen and schedule/arrange mowing to fit events such as this.

Here’s the Dexta parked up and having rest after doing a neat job mowing the playing field.

These tractors are just as useful and relevant today as they were when they were made in the late 1950s. The 6ft wide finisher mower can cover some ground with the small tractor minimising damage to the ground.

The perfect spot for the highly fragranced ’Zephirine Drouhin’, it frames the gate as well as allowing anyone passing by a chance to catch its unmistakable scent.

This rose was developed in France in 1868 and was famous for being completely thornless. This timeless rose is still bringing joy 155 years on.

What a difference a few days of sunshine makes! Here is David Austin’s Lady of Shalott shown in bud and then with open blooms a few days later.

To get the impact of size there are 3 shrub roses planted here. This repeat flowering apricot orange blooms are a delight and being fragranced as well as disease resistant they are ideal for mixed borders as shown here.

Our Fordson Dexta doing a neat job on the Giles playing field last Saturday.

With her grass tyres on and the finisher mower recently restored and blades sharpened she’s covering this 4 acre field well.

Last Saturday at the Giles School and not a cloud in the sky, lovely grass cutting weather.

The entrance has a cheerful show of highly fragrant roses, a treat to see and smell at the row ends as I’m turning the mower. I do love a good rose 🌹

I’m really proud to be contracting at the Giles Academy, my old Secondary School. The school has grown a lot since I was there, a great asset to the village. Looking forward to doing my bit keeping the lawns and playing field in good order.
