And you need to identify the optimal weather conditions, and then ensure that you have the skills to pilot them successfully.

This may be a bit of a 'Controversial' post but ...

It's really important when reading - either for yourself or for others - that you have the right person in the room.

What do I mean by this??

Well, too often I see people seeking Tarot asking questions like...

"What does X really think about me?"

Or

"Does Y think we have a future together?"

Or

"What's Z's intentions"

And I understand that those are questions which play through your mind. I get it.

And you might get an answer through the cards, but it will be incomplete.

Because the wrong person is in the room.

A much better use of a Question could be:

"Why is it important to me what X thinks?"

Or

"How can I align with my purpose and values to attract the most authentic connections into my life?"

Or

"How can I become more effective at having those important, yet difficult interpersonal conversations?"

The first questions place the focus on a 3rd party, outside of your control.

The second set can facilitate deep personal understanding and self awareness, they place the Querant at the centre, they Empower.

Tarot can be a powerful tool for personal development and spiritual growth.

Use it wisely. Use it skillfully. And you will elevate and enhance it's power - and yours too.

Choices, choices... Decisions, decisions...

Some people get up in the morning and choose which Tie to wear. Or which T. Or which pair of shoes...

Some days you feel bold and colourful, others maybe there's a need to look professional, while on another day comfort is king.

Each day we have a choice, and make a decision about how we're going to show up in the world.

And that decision can change how others view us, treat us, interact with us...

Which, when you think about it, is odd.

You're still You, whatever way you're dressed.

And yet, it's still important. People's perceptions matter.

So when I pick a deck for the day, do I go traditional, modern, dark or light? How do I want to show up?

Which perception am I wanting to project?

How can I show up, in a way that's in alignment with who I am and how I wish to be seen?

Choices and decisions produce results. There's consequences and outcomes.

How can you make the best ones?

Develop your perspective, your intuition and your sense of Self.

And for each of those tasks, tarot provides.

Did you know ...

That whilst Egyptian iconography and symbols are common in Tarot decks and artwork...

That there is no direct connection.

The Egyptians may have had secret mystery schools and hidden knowledge, they may possibly have used divination, they may have had ways of breaking the world down into systems and structures...

But, they didn't use Tarot. Or anything similar.

Tarot has a well researched and documented history, which goes back about 500 years and is European.

So why the Egypt connection? Well, it was about trying to establish legitimacy and authority. And at the time when this 'association' was created the western world was fascinated by all things Egyptian.

And tarot is all about creating association in order to derive understanding.

One of the fascinating things about Tarot is the subtle differences in tradition and meaning, which create different inferences - even from the "same" card in a different deck.

The Nine of Swords from the Thoth Tarot deck and the Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) Tarot deck both depict themes of anxiety, worry, and mental distress, but they do so in slightly different ways due to variations in symbolism, influence and artistic interpretation.

In the Thoth Tarot, the Nine of Swords is called "Cruelty." The background is a chaotic swirl of dark clouds and symbols, indicating a state of inner turmoil and mental anguish.

This card emphasizes the intensity of psychological suffering and the destructive power of negative thoughts. The swords direction, with the dripping blood convey that they have pierced the skin and symbolize the relentless torment of intrusive thoughts and nightmares.

In the RWS Tarot, the Nine of Swords depicts a person sitting up in bed with their head in their hands, appearing distraught and anxious. Above them hang nine swords, seemingly suspended in the air, while a black wall looms in the background.

Unlike the Thoth depiction, the RWS version focuses more on the emotional impact of worry and anxiety, rather than the intrusive thoughts themselves. The figure's posture suggests feelings of helplessness and despair in the face of overwhelming stress or fear.

The swords in the RWS version can be interpreted as symbols of mental anguish or the consequences of overthinking. The dark night of the soul.

However, unlike the Thoth version, they are not shown to be piercing, indicating that the source of suffering may be more internalized or self-inflicted.

While both versions of the Nine of Swords convey themes of anxiety and mental distress, the Thoth Tarot emphasizes the torment of intrusive thoughts and the destructive power of negative thinking, while the RWS Tarot focuses more on the emotional impact of worry and despair.

The differences lie in their artistic representations and the specific nuances of symbolism employed in each deck.

And those subtle differences can tip a reading in a particular direction.

In Today's Reading of the Moon, the Two of Water, the Messenger of Air, and the Eight of Fire, we find a complex narrative:

The Moon highlights and speaks to your positive qualities of intuition, imagination, and emotional depth. Its appearance provides an opportunity to tap into your inner wisdom and explore the depths of your subconscious instincts.

However, the presence of Two of Water (cups) warns of a potential weakness in the form of codependency or overemphasis on relationships. Its appearance here cautions against losing oneself in emotional connections and urges a balance between intimacy and independence.

The Messenger of Air (swords) signals the need for taking swift action, for clear communication, and for prioritizing intellectual growth. It encourages seizing opportunities with courage and decisiveness, while utilizing your analytical skills and mental clarity to make informed decisions.

Yet, the Eight of Fire (wands) serves as a threat, creating a warning of overwhelm, lack of direction, and impulsive behavior. It suggests that while progress may be swift, there's a risk of burnout or miscommunication if not managed carefully.

In summary, this reading advises embracing the intuitive guidance of the Moon while being mindful of the potential pitfalls indicated by the Two of Water and the Eight of Fire.

It's interesting the depth of meaning which a single image can hold...

The Two of Pentacles card for example often symbolizes balance, adaptability, and the juggling of responsibilities or choices. If we just look at it from the context of relationships, this card can offer several deeper meanings:

Balancing Act: Relationships require a delicate balance of give and take, compromise, and understanding. The Two of Pentacles reminds us of the importance of maintaining equilibrium in our relationships, ensuring that neither partner feels overwhelmed or neglected.

The Ten of Swords.

It's one of those cards (like Death/Tower) where, when drawn, often produces a wince or a gasp.

It has an "Uh oh!!" Effect, and it's easy to see why.

A guy lies on the ground, pierced by ten swords. And that can't be a good thing, right?

Well, all meaning is contextual and so what we take from the card depends on many factors.

While it can certainly indicate an ending, that ending doesn't necessarily have to be negative.

Swords are the Thinking suit, and so the 10 can indicate that the thinking is done, your mind is made up, a decision has been made.

It's also worth noting the similarities with the Hierophant. In the RWS deck especially. Note the gesture and the clothing... So why would the Hierophant be slain so brutally?

It could indicate that old systems of belief and religious structure are dead. That you've been freed from a belief system. And now that you're free of those structures, you can start living in harmony with the person you were meant to be.

It's also a reminder that all things change, nothing is permanent, good or bad.

It happens to us all... But, You can take steps to prevent it.

Good Decisions are based on the three big C's.

Clarity
Certainty
Congruence

When you can find the insight and guidance to align those things, powerful shifts happen for you...

Largely because you make better judgements, empowered choices and authentic decisions.

And You deserve to live the awesome life waiting for you on the other side of that.

The 8 of Wands - a different perspective.

This was a card which often confounded me in readings. In traditional tarot it has a meaning of Swiftness, of taking sudden action, of movement.

It's a fire / passion / inspiration card full of energy and promise...

But...

That interpretation oftentimes wouldn't fit within the context of the reading I was d**g. So, over time I've added a slightly different spin when this one comes up and doesn't smoothly fit the narrative.

When you look at the actual card - and here we have the RW, the Morgan Greer and the Muse Tarot - what actually seems to be happening is the the 'wands' are getting in the way.

They cross your path, prevent you from moving forward, block your view, and hold you back... So although you'd like to proceed with your journey toward your destination, something has come along to delay or challenge that.

For me this card is the unforeseen phone call, the unexpected traffic jam, the losing your phone, the random call in to work to cover, that relative turning up unannounced, the long queue...

It's those things which interrupt your flow towards your destination. The unexpected situations that get in the way of you achieving those things you felt sure you were going to get done.

When you're at the point that you know where you're going, and what you need to do, and how to do it, but then life get's in the way - that's a 8 wands moment.

It's a frustration. An inconvenience. A barrier, a blockage. Maybe it's the universe setting you a few final hurdles to prove you really want what's on the other side.

Maybe it's just an indication that there's is power in timing, and in the acceptance of things happening in their right time.

It's also curious that the things which 'get in the way' are usually mundane, worldly, chores or duties. Remember that wands are about your aspirations and passions - so in this respect the 8 wands often teaches us to be mindful of our real world responsibilities.

Curious too it's one of the non-naturalistic cards / symbolism rich cards which draws attention to the environment rather than the people.

It's a great card, always fun to see in a reading.
