Christmas fun! . We have been busy with lots of Christmassy workshops working with children from 4 to 11 years old! The children were amazing creating cards, paintings, crafts, writing songs and so much more! It definitely is feeling like a Christmas! . Wow, what a day!! It is the 1st December and we had our FIRST school workshop with @theelfexperience at Courthill Infant School. It was so magical seeing the children's faces light up as we entered the hall... all 360 of them! We had a lovely letter from Santa to tell them they were on the nice list, a festive elfy song, story and lots of Christmas cheer. . Six and a half years ago we started Arts2Educate to help integrate the arts into children’s learning. We strongly believe how powerful the arts are in helping children learn, keeping children engaged, helping children think independently, think creatively and to work in teams. We believe that integrating the arts helps to build confidence in children, gets them excited about their learning, enables them to share ideas in a different way which will all lead to higher standards of work throughout the curriculum. We are offering three schools the chance to work with us to build more creativity into their planning. What is included? - Initial consultation to discuss an area of the curriculum - One year group in the school to work with Arts2Educate - Arts2Educate to plan creative lessons to be integrated into a term’s topic or literacy lessons - A practical after school CPD for staff to go through creative strategies that can be applied to any literacy or topic lesson - 3 x ½ day workshops throughout the term - Constant communication throughout the term - An opportunity for children to gain their Arts Award Discover* *If you would like Arts Award to be included, certificates would be charged on top of the final amount. Autumn is our favourite season so have created a little Autumn song for you to sing with your class. Here is a little taster :) . Over the last 6 and a half years we have built up so many songs linked to the curriculum. We are in the process of recording them all as we believe that children can learn so much through music and song. Last week we were at Heatherlands Primary School delivering an assembly and workshop with years 3 and 4 to help raise money for MASS Action, a volunteer-led charity that support grassroot projects like Khora, a social kitchen, asylum support centre and free shop for displaced people in Athens. . We delivered both an arts and music workshop with the theme of helping and welcoming. Here is a little clip from a song we sang and wrote with the Year 4 children. They wrote some beautiful lyrics! MUSIC AND ME . Thank you @soundstormmusic for asking me to create a video on my musical journey. Here is a little clip from a longer video which explains how I got to where I am today. I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to play music throughout my life. Starting from the age of 5 years old I was pushed by my parents to practise the piano everyday. I then started the flute when I was 9 which I loved! As I got older I started song-writing which has really stayed with me today and part of the reason why I started my business Arts2Educate (which you will hear in this little video clip). . Over the last few weeks we have been writing a special school song for Christ the King School, Bournemouth. We wrote the first verse and chorus then the children helped to write the second and third verses all based on their school's values. . Thank you @soundstormmusic for this awesome opportunity. Singing and songwriting are one of our favourite things to do with young people. Here we were at @worthypastures with @jessie_jellyfish and @wateraid. We were asked to write a song for @laurie.jay beautiful story and we loved singing it with so many young people over the summer. . Songwriting is such a powerful tool. I started songwriting when I was about 11 years old - I was quite an emotional young person (up and down as my family would say) and with music being such a big part of my life I found songwriting very therapeutic. I often found it difficult to express myself as a young teen but found through writing songs and music it came so much more easily. . We now go into schools to help children write songs to assist them with their learning. I have found that when children write songs about a book they are reading or a topic they are learning about they remember facts, feelings, emotions of characters etc. more easily. . On the 2nd February we are starting on online songwriting course for young people aged 8 - 11. I love how the leaves change colour, they fall and we can play! This song is a little story about the friends of the forest.
