Weโd like to brighten up the beginning of your week with some great news โ The BEACH Appeal has received a ยฃ15,000 pledge from the Talbot Village Trust towards our new Critical Care Wellbeing Garden! ๐ฅ๐
The BEACH building at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in 2025, will house a new 30-bed Critical Care Unit on the first floor, making it one of the biggest in the country. The new Critical Care Unit also aims to offer outdoor spaces for Critical Care patients, to bring them fresh air and a spot of nature to our most unwell patients. ๐๐ป
The healing power of fresh air and natural light is immeasurable for patients. However, due to the current practicality of transporting medical equipment and the need for staff to stay near the unit in case of emergencies, very few Critical Care patients are taken outdoors. ๐ณ
We plan to create a soothing wellbeing garden on a balcony adjacent to the future Critical Care Unit at the BEACH building, making outdoor spaces more accessible for patients. โ๏ธ โ๏ธ
Plus, this space will offer a peaceful setting for visitors to connect with their loved ones away from the clinical environment. ๐ฉโ๐ฉโ๐ฆโ๐ฆ
Our dedicated Critical Care staff will also have a separate green space for relaxation and restoration during their shifts. Their wellbeing is as important as that of our patients as they give their all to care for people and their loved ones at what can be such a stressful time. ๐
We are immensely grateful to the Talbot Village Trust for their generous pledge. Your support is helping us transform the healthcare experience for Dorset at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust's BEACH Building. โจ

Hannah has been an integral part of the Outpatients team at Poole Hospital for eight months, where she has had the privilege of working alongside dedicated professionals and treating patients daily. ๐ฅโค๏ธ
Skydiving has always been a dream on Hannah's bucket list, and the opportunity to raise money for a fantastic charity was just the push she needed to pursue it.

Hannah recalled: "The experience was incredible and better than I had imagined!

๐จ Today is the last day to nominate the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity for the Benefact Group's Movement for Good Drawing. With your help, we could receive ยฃ5,000 to support children and young people receiving care from our hospitals! ๐จ
Take a minute to click on the link below and send in your nomination TODAY, Friday 21 June, before the midnight cut-off: https://buff.ly/4c6zVbs. ๐
By nominating University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity, you can help fund essential projects for our littlest patients and their families. While NHS funding covers the core necessities, many items and services can relieve additional pressures for children and their loved ones during their time at University Hospitals Dorset. ๐ฅโค๏ธ
Your support could help us fund the additional services that can make a real difference to families while their babies need extra care in the neonatal unit. ๐ถ It could help the Gully's Place service, which supports children and young people with life-limiting conditions from the point of diagnosis, providing care in the hospital, at home, and within the community. ๐งธ
Your nomination could even help us raise funds for crucial projects that are part of our BEACH Appeal. These projects would help young people across our region, such as the indoor and outdoor at the heart of the new Childrenโs Health Department. ๐
We need your help to make this happen! Let's come together and bring positive change to the lives of children and young people in our region. Your support is invaluable, and we can't thank you enough for being part of this amazing journey! ๐๐ช

We are immensely grateful for Perla Gabuya's generosity and dedication after raising a phenomenal ยฃ2,775.50 for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity! ๐
On Saturday 21 October 2023, the then-75-year-old completed a 5-mile charity walk through London's iconic Hyde Park to raise funds for purchasing a HIPEC machine, which provides warm chemotherapy for patients with advanced ovarian cancer ๐ถโโ๏ธ
Perla's story behind her charity walk truly touched hearts. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and later underwent a mastectomy. Then, she had a craniotomy when a tumour was found in her right ear, causing her to lose hearing in that ear.
Throughout her recovery process at University Hospitals Dorset, Perla remained resilient and challenged herself to walk just one step further than the day before. ๐ฃ
Not breaking her stride, Perla is already gearing up for her next fundraiser walk in August, which will help raise funds for the new maternity ward and services at University Hospitals Dorset's BEACH building! ๐๐ถ
Thank you, Perla, for inspiring us all with your amazing walks and for helping University Dorset Hospitals NHS Charity support our local hospitals to change lives one step at a time! ๐

Our appreciation goes out to our incredible supporter, Eric, whose generous donation in memory of his late wife, Margot, has enabled University Hospitals Dorset's Ward One (Gastroenterology) to acquire a new sleeper chair. ๐บ๐
This chair will provide a comfortable resting place for relatives of patients undergoing end-of-life care, ensuring they can stay by their loved one's side overnight with ease.
Presently, there is only one palliative pull-out bed available for all wards at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. This means that most relatives of patients receiving end-of-life care have had to sleep in a chair next to their loved one's bed, adding more strain during an already challenging time.
The addition of this new sleeper chair will offer solace to relatives, allowing them to be with their loved ones in comfort throughout the night.
Eric explained that the Ward One team provided "exceptional care and compassion" for Margot before her passing in December 2023. And in return, he wanted to leave a donation to say thank you.
Eric, we are very grateful for your generosity. Your donation will undoubtedly bring comfort to many families staying by their loved ones receiving care on Ward One. ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆโค๏ธ

Lead respiratory physiologist at University Hospitals Dorset, Deben Harris is embarking on a remarkable journey to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, in honour of his โadventurous" dad. ๐๏ธ
Trekking from the hot African plains to the frozen summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is not only a personal challenge but a heartfelt tribute to his late dad's, Lee, exceptional life.
Lee was a campaigner unafraid to โshock societyโ , even once standing for London mayor, as well as a port and a playwright.
Following Lee's passing in November 2023, Deben was inspired by the people who shared their โlove and energyโ to honour his dad with that same daring spirit.
So, he decided to undertake the daunting feat of scaling Mount Kilimanjaro in October 2024 to raise funds with University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity for his local Parkinsonโs and respiratory services โ a field heโs worked in for almost two decades. โค๏ธ
Having witnessed his dadโs battle with Parkinson's, Debenโs mission is to raise funds to support others who are starting their journey with the disease.
Deben said: โItโs hard to hold onto that forever, and obviously, you do have some downtimes, especially after a loss and youโre grieving.
โBut I want to come out with a positive. Iโm a big fan of taking something thatโs knocked you in life and using it to grow as a person or contribute towards something.โ
His fundraising journey has been arduous, involving cake sales, rigorous running challenges and coastal treks to prepare for Mount Kilimanjaro's demanding terrain.
Along the way, heโs encountered kindred spirits undertaking their own โwonderful challengesโ. Heโs shared his dadโs story, Leeโs love for โmixing with peopleโ and his personal fundraising goals with the people heโs met along the way.
His upcoming Black Tie event, set for Saturday, 29 June, promises to be an elegant affair complete with a delectable three-course meal, stunning live music and evening of entertainment. ๐คต
