Andrew Metheven - Music
I'm a lo-fi folk musician from Bradford, in the north of England.
I’ve got a new song coming out tomorrow, just on for now - if you want to get a reminder first thing head over to my bandcamp and hit follow (https://andrewmetheven.bandcamp.com/), or sign up to my mailing list on my website (https://andrewmetheven.co.uk/subscribe/) I’ll post on my social media channels later in the day.
I’m releasing it in memory of someone special, and to raise funds for a bunch of folks that could use the cash (but more on that tomorrow).
I’m looking forward to sharing this one - it’s come together really quickly, when “finishing” a song, then getting a recording done often feels like a really laborious process. I’ve managed to avoid tinkering for hours, pulling it apart repeatedly, coming to loathe what I’ve created before anyone else has even heard it.
I'm planning gigs for 2024! If you want me to come and play at a venue near you, drop me a message on here or via email ([email protected]) and we'll work something out. I'd particularly like to find gigs around West Yorkshire - in Sheffield, Manchester, Hull, Skipton...

Thanks to everyone who came out to our solstice gig at The Beehive last night. I’m tired today, but it’s the good type of tired. It was so nice to fill that little basement full of people, stories and music, it’s how I want to spend the longest night every year 🧡
Steph took us on a journey through some gorgeous acapella folk songs, Behla shared some of her lush tunes and The Silver Reservd capped everything off with his beautifully textured songs (while reintroducing us to our inner child…). In and amongst all that I did my best to not f**k up too much - shout out to the kid who pulled the power lead to my pedal board mid tune.
Thanks again to folks at The Beehive for being so accommodating, and to folks at for working something out for us, I hope you get the electrics sorted soon.

Looking forward to playing at The Triangle as part of in February!
Solstice - the longest night - is a week on Thursday. Darkness and light, day and night, shortening and lengthening.
and I will be all singing some songs at hullabaloo in and we’d love to see you there 🧡
Anyone want to hear some sad sad songs next year? I'm booking gigs for 2024 - if you want me to come and play give me a shout and we'll set something up.

Its Bandcamp Friday, which means the Bandcamp platform waives its cuts and artists get all the money from sales.
I'm not in this for the money, but banjo strings don't grow on trees, so if you fancy a download or a copy of my EP, go nab one here:

I've got a new song out today. Its called "You Broke the News" and its on my Spotify and Bandcamp. I'd love it if you'd lend me your ears for a few minutes, and took a listen.

I recorded it in midwinter 2023, and I'm really grateful to my friend for sharing her rather wonderful cello playing. It was mastered by .lawrence.music and I'll forever appreciate the help and guidance of my brother .a.dey. Having said all that, I take full responsibility!
Releasing a song always feels funny - I want to keep on holding on to it, keeping it close, but I also want to share it and offer it out to others, which means letting go of it. It comes back to visit sometimes (when you play it at a gig, or the off ocassion I dare listen back to the recording), but it doesn't change the fact its out there in the world.
Anyway, I'm going to go and make a coffee.

I’ve got a new song coming out on Friday I’m probably meant to be telling you about, but I’d rather you think for a minute about how beautiful these fennel flowers are 💛
I’ve got a new song out next Friday.

Oh f**k, this hurts to read. I've absorbed Kristian's music for the last couple of years, and his love for guitars (and life, it seems) has been infectious.
Feel genuinely sad to think of him losing some of his beautiful instruments, and that they're being handled with anything less than care and respect 😞
Tough morning here in Gothenburg. Our parked bus was hit this night by a gang of robbers, our poor bus driver was alone and could of course not defend it himself. They broke open our trailer and swiftly took all the guitars, amps and a whole bunch of other gear. I will post pictures of gear to keep an eye open for but right now me and crew have to lay chock aside and figure out how to do a show. My crew are superheroes working hard this morning scrambling gear. I’m about to do the same to have some noise makers in my hands tonight. These instruments are so specific and will be so hard to resell, and I have hope they will be found, police are on it. It will be a unique show tonight, that’s for sure. Our voices and dance moves can’t be stolen, and I will howl at Liseberg tonight🐺❤️

I’ve got a new song coming out this Thursday I should probably be telling you about, but actually just want to share a photo of this beauty. I think it’s a less yellow underwing moth, found on our living room carpet after settling the kids to sleep, and before sitting down to watch The Bear.
My daughter has decided to nap right on top of me today, so while she sleeps I've been updating my website (www.andrewmetheven.co.uk) and contacting local promoters and venues about gigs at the end of 2023 and into 2024.
If you want me to come and play some sad sad songs for you (or know a venue locally that might), send me a message and we'll work something out!
Quite quite quite excited to be playing at the Topic Folk Club this Thursday. The Topic is an absolute institution and I’ll be supporting Roger Sutcliffe, who has been playing The Topic since 1963!
I've got a new song coming out on 27th July! Its called "She Was the One" and you can presave it on Spotify here:

What a lush evening! I hadn’t played a set at for fifteen years, and it was such a good feeling to get up on that stage again. Thanks to everyone who came out, Thom on sound and the crew behind the bar for looking after us, and of course Behla Hutchinson and Gerrard Bell-Fife for sharing their beautiful songs.
This is tonight!
