Another one of the best-known British writers of all time is C. S. Lewis. Even though his main career was as an academic, he is best known for fantasy books that are aimed at children. The Chronicles of Narnia as a child, with many of them being adapted to the big screen today.

Lord Byron (1788-1824) wrote a great deal of poetry before his early death, in his mid-thirties, while fighting in Greece.
Don Juan is considered as the masterpiece of Lord Byron and ranks as one of the most important English long poems since John Milton's renowned work Paradise Lost.

Emily Brontë started out as a poet and left behind some widely anthologised pieces of verse. The two great poems we haven’t included are ‘No Coward Soul Is Mine’ and ‘Remembrance’, because they’re slightly longer; but you can read ‘Remembrance’ here and ‘No Coward Soul Is Mine’ here.
