If you ask any midwife they will remember the feeling of achieving their final birth as a student midwife! One of the requirements before a student midwife can qualify is facilitating the birth of 40 babies and so it is a very special moment when it happens🥰

Last month we saw 52 babies born on the Birth Centre!

Looks like May was definitely boy season with over double the amount of boys born compared to girls!

A special shout out goes to second year student midwife Beth who made the world of difference to Rhianna's birth experience!

Bradford maternity unit is part of a teaching hospital and so you likely will meet some of our lovely students throughout your care. Dependant on where they are through their training depends on what level of care they will provide, ranging from observation only to directly providing all care (always with a qualified midwife overseeing).
As with every aspect of your care it is completely your choice who does or does not provide care, but as you can see from Rhianna's feedback having a student can completely transform your birth experience!

April births🤍

We saw 69 babies born on our Birth Centre last month! We cared for a total of 95 families in different stages of their journey, for example in early labour, established labour, facilitating early discharge home postnatally.

This has been such a positive increase in activity we've seen coming through our doors and we're aiming to see this continue!

Congratulations to all who welcomed their baby in March!🤍

We welcomed 79 families through our doors this month for a range of care including labour care and to facilitate an early discharge home if they birthed in a different area than the birth centre.

Did you know that we sell handmade crocheted baby clothes? Our lovely Dawn makes these and all funds generated go directly to our Birth Centre to buy items to enhance your experience!

Prices range dependant on the item. These gorgeous hats with a pom pom are £5, baby booties are £3 and the jacket with hood and ears are £15. Other items include romper suits, blankets, and dresses.
We don't display every colour available, so ask us to see the full range if you're interested!

First is our lovely manager Helen!

Here she is talking about her midwifery career, giving a bit of background to the position that Birth Centres across the country have been in recently and most importantly, how we can try change this so that full choice for place of birth can be facilitated.

Reminder that if you're pregnant and wish to birth with us, we encourage you to express your preference to your community midwife (which gives time for an individualised care plan to be made if required) and on arrival to MAC.

Big congratulations to all the families who birthed with us this month!
Slightly lower numbers due to winter sickness across the maternity unit. Hopefully we will see our numbers increase again in the new year!
