Following prompt action by County Councillor and Leader of Brentwood Council, Barry Aspinell, works have begun from Essex Highways to secure the junction of Wilson's Corner and 128 Ongar Road – a major junction in the town.
The work is expected to last up to a week, as contractors aim to fix a broken water main under the road, alongside long-standing problems with the road surface raised by Brentwood North and Brentwood West Councillors.
Brentwood North Councillor Steve Mayo welcomed the repairs but hoped contractors would be mindful of the effect on residents due to road diversions, particularly in the Sawyers Hall Lane and Highland Avenue areas.
Brentwood West Councillor Sarah Cloke added that the incident required much-required lasting repairs.
She said: "I'm shocked that Essex County Council had classed this as repaired, as the pothole looked worse than ever. This needs a permanent fix - ECC needs to learn that a stitch in time saves nine."
The proposed works come as Councillor Aspinell, who represents Pilgrims Hatch, announced a task force to address long-standing complaints about the poor state of Brentwood High Street, which he had raised with ECC.
Local Liberal Democrat councillors have welcomed proposed works to fix a sinkhole at a busy junction at Brentwood's High Street.

Since 2018, passengers have endured nearly 1 million minutes of delays. It's why we're calling for a freeze on rail fares to stop passengers paying more for a poor service.
It's time to put passengers first.

“Years of Conservative Party economic vandalism” have led us here, says Sarah Olney.
She calls on the new government “to properly invest in the organisation” to “break this cycle of decline”
Like our friends at Basildon & Thurrock Lib Dems, we're very proud of Max's career as a Team GB athlete. We wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.
Our Mayor and Deputy Mayor are Warley Councillors, so we're delighted that The Royal Anglian Regiment will visit the ward with the Brentwood Imperial Youth Band. This is an opportunity for Warley residents, young or old, to see this historic chapel, which is not normally open to the public.
Royal Anglian Sponsored Summer Concert will take place the Regimental Chapel of the Essex Regiment, Warley on Sunday the 29th of September 2024. This is for the benefit of the Royal Anglian Benevolent Fund.
This is an excellent opportunity visit the Chapel and experience the music of the Brentwood Imperial Youth Band who will be performing; the Band have strong links to the Essex Regiment and work with other military bands of the United Kingdom. The Warley Army Reserve Centre (ARC) bar will be open for post event drinks. https://www.royalanglianregiment.com/news/concertwarley/
We wish these fine officers all the best with their future military careers; Warley, of course, was the home of the Essex Regiment for many years, one of the predecessor regiments of The Royal Anglian Regiment.
On the 9th of August 2024, the Royal Anglian Regiment welcomed four new young officers to our family. They have just completed the 44-week training course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the final event being the Sovereign's Parade, where the inspecting officer was Chief of the Defence Staff. https://www.royalanglianregiment.com/news/royal-anglian-regiment-welcomes-4-new-officers/

Today, Brentwood West Councillors joined Council Officers on an inspection of council-owned properties in the ward. During the visits, around 30 issues were logged, including fly tips, banging fire doors, and broken parts of the buildings, and these will be addressed shortly.
Councillors were pleased to see improvements in many areas, including new door entry systems, CCTV, front doors, and communal area redecoration. Further improvements are planned, with new lifts scheduled to be fitted in the next year or two.
Your Brentwood West Councillors will continue to monitor the planned works and raise any other issues for residents.

We couldn't be prouder of our incredible Team GB athletes. You've shown the world what Team GB is all about— grit, heart, and pure determination.
Thank you for representing us so brilliantly! 🏅🇬🇧
Councillor Barry Aspinell (LD - Pilgrims Hatch) has contacted Essex Highways following reports that a recently repaired sinkhole located on the double roundabout (at the junction of Wilson's Corner junction with the A128 Ongar Road in Brentwood) is once again deteriorating.
Water is filling the fast-developing hole, which threatens to become a sinkhole again. Councillor Aspinell, also the Essex County Council member for the Brentwood North Division, noted the pothole had been reported many times, saying, "Temporary repairs of any kind are not sufficient to resolve the issue."
He asked Highways to inspect the site as soon as possible and prioritised for permanent repair.
Councillor Aspinell added: "This location is already pitted with potholes alongside uneven road surfaces and cannot be left in such a dangerous condition any longer."
Cllr Sarah Cloke (LD - Brentwood West) said, "I'm shocked that ECC had classed this as repaired, as the pothole looks worse than ever. This needs a permanent fix- Essex County Council needs to learn that a stitch in time saves nine."

Wise advice. Although much of Brentwood is urban, we are also a rural Borough. Please be careful and considerate in our countryside.
With warmer weather on the way, we’re asking you to help us by taking care outside:
- Grass fires can spread quickly so please never light fires or have BBQs on dry grassland
- Make sure ci******es are properly stubbed out
- Take your litter home if you can't find a bin

England's water companies breached permits nearly 700 times in 2023, polluting our rivers and coastlines.
That's why the Liberal Democrats are calling for a ban on executive bonuses for any company found to breach permits. It's time to put the environment before profit.

‘The government must save our dogs and our beaches from this national scandal,’ says Lib Dem MP and Vet Danny Chambers MP
It's time to hold water companies accountable for pumping sewage into our seas.
"We are seeing our communities absolutely rejecting this hate and racism," said Lib Dem MP Layla Moran "deciding instead that they are going to stand in solidarity, that they are going to find a way to express that this does not happen in their name"
