Kate Moss (un)discovered taken by Tony Briggs in November 1990 when Kate was unknown and working in a travel agency in Soho. For 10 years the negatives of this photoshoot were forgotten and lost on storage, until one day, they were found and Tony decided to print them. Now exclusive to Labyrinth Gallery Brighton this lenticular version comprises of just 5 in the edition with only 2 in the world left. Tony Briggs began his career as a freelance photographer and film director working for The BBC, Channel 4, Acid Jazz, Go-Discs, MCA Universal and the London style magazines; i-D, The Face, LOADED and Dazed & Confused. Grace in Your Face. This robotic and futuristic portrait of Grace Jones has both references to Pop Art and science fiction. Cast in translucent acrylic resign it both reflects its surroundings as well as refracting the images through it. Egyptian art, spirituality and a physical stillness are inherit influences. Curated by Guy Portelli, this piece was made in 2007 but the very first one was sculpted back in 1985 and was then taken on Dragon's Den where Guy won over the Dragon's support to invest in his business. Fast forward to 2024 and you can see his incredible sculptures taking over cities and music venues such as The O2. The technique to create this cast, was originally inspired back in the 80's when Guy was commissioned to create casts for helicopter headsets (which, others claimed that it was not possible). However, after a lot of trial and error, he successfully created the headset. This inspired him to take his knowledge and make a robotic figure, and thus Grace was born. Sculpted in clay to start then cast into acrylic resin. This original is available to view and buy now the gallery.
