We've been notified this morning of someone impersonating Niall on FB and has been advertising a property in Brighton in his name; on Facebook Market Place. We received a message earlier from soneone who wanted to confirm whether or not it was a scam, thank you for bringing it to our attention; it is most definitley a scam. We would never ask anyone to send us money for a rental, without following the correct process, meeting them for a viewing, completing reference checks, etc.

Please keep an eye out for the profile and advert and report it.

The climate impact of the real estate industry and why should we take action.

According to sustainlab.co; the real estate industry currently contributes to almost 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions: 28% from operational emissions (i.e. energy needed to heat, cool, and power buildings) and 11% are generated from materials and construction. From the construction of new properties to the upkeep and performance of existing ones, there are high levels of energy consumption and a strong reliance on fossil fuels in the real estate industry.

Recent IPCC reports have already confirmed that extreme, catastrophic weather conditions due to our changing climate are going to happen way sooner than you’d expect, which also means rapidly increasing physical threats for the real estate industry!

Interest in sustainability has also been rapidly increasing among investors, owners, and tenants. Investors, policymakers, and the public are also increasingly calling for changes to be made in real estate companies’ business models.

Upcoming legislations such as the EU taxonomy and the SFDR will contribute to increasing demands for transparency in non-financial reporting and higher levels of accountability, on top of proposals for mandatory non-financial due diligences. Planning ahead and staying ahead of the game (i.e. the eventual influx of additional reporting legislation in the future) can only be rewarding. Fast, fitting and data-driven actions today = clear advantages tomorrow.

For me and Matt, attending business retreats is highly beneficial as we work on our business plan, surrounded by like-minded people. The retreat was not solely focused on the business, there was a lot of personal development too, which is equally important in running a successful business.

Why should the property industry care about sustainability?

Scientific report after scientific report, from the COP26 summit to the latest IPCC assessment, the science cannot possibly get any louder and clearer: the future for us and our planet is looking bleak, and our window of opportunity to act is narrowing. Now, more than ever, it is time for all of us across different industries to put on an urgent climate lens, to understand our impact, understand how to reduce it, and take decisive action.

😌 It's everything we enjoy feeling: uplifted and energised, yet calm and grounded.

☀️ The windows are huge, reaching all the way to the ceiling, so brilliant for someone who might need a little more light during the winter months to feel their best. ⠀

👀 You'll notice the blue reading nook in the corner of the room, next to lovely wooden-effect wall tiles. Imagine sitting here, with a snapshot of the forest behind you in lovely bark coloured frames, reading a book and relaxing into the comfort of the space.

✔️ The seat is really big, which you can see from the photos, offering plenty of room to sit cross legged, or with the knees bent up.

🔨 Since this photograph, we have built a beautiful warm wood desk into the wall space to the left of the reading nook, offering a comfortable home office experience.

Pride Month 2022.

Today, we’re paying tribute to Larry Kramer: Larry Kramer, a pioneer on AIDS crisis, trying to bring attention to the disease gay men were facing around the country.

In 1981, he created the Gay Men's Health Crisis organization, which was the only group devoted to helping those affected by HIV/AIDS. He later created Act Up (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power), whose street actions demanding a speedup in AIDS drugs research and an end to discrimination against gay men and le****ns which was an organization that held high-profile demonstrations.

He wrote the play "The Normal Heart," which chronicled his experience in AIDS activism. In 2011, the play finally went up on Broadway and then was turned into an HBO movie.

There is still more to be done to protect the rights of LGBTQIA+ communities across the world, and it is vital to remember the lives and histories of people who have in the past been marginalised by society. Let us not stop today but continue to celebrate our individuality everyday!

Pride Month 2022. 🌈

Today, we’re paying tribute to Justin Fashanu: He was a ground-breaker. Justin for all his talent is still chiefly remembered for being the worlds first openly gay professional footballer and for taking his own life. It is largely forgotten that he was also Britain's first one million-pound black player and that his playing career spanned 19 years with significant spells at Norwich City, Notts County & Nottingham Forest.

Despite being openly gay, Justin faced a number of personal struggles in his life, it is clear that issues around his sexuality were at the heart of his problems. There is no question that the prejudice he encountered in his professional life as a top-flight footballer for club and country blighted his career and led eventually to his death.

His niece, Amal Fashanu, created The Justin Fashanu Foundation in honour of her late uncle. Their aim is to provide support and help achieve a level of mental health for the youth across all of society.

There is still more to be done to protect the rights of LGBTQIA+ communities across the world, and it is vital to remember the lives and histories of people who have in the past been marginalised by society.

This month (and all year long in our business) we pay tribute to the LGBTQIA+ community who played an important part to create a world we are in today. 🌈

LGBTQIA+ community: being visible and heard.

In the past, very few LGBTQIA+ individuals “came out” to their families or told others their identity. Most of them waited until they were adults to talk about their true identity with others. Fear of rejection and serious negative reactions kept many LGBTQIA+ adults from openly sharing their lives.

Until the 1990s, there were limited resources for LGBTQIA+ youth. Gay and transgender adolescents had few sources of information to learn about their identity or to find support. With the birth of modern technology where resources are easily available, with a few clicks and taps; it is a great turning point for the community to find accurate information, guidance, and support. With greater access to resources, more LGBTQIA+ individuals are coming out, sharing their stories and experiences.

We would like to highlight an organisation that provides support to the community. We chose Stonewall organisation as they are part of a vibrant global movement for change made up of LGBTQ+ people. Over the last 30 years, they have helped create transformative change in the lives of LGBTQ+ people here in the UK.

Let’s take action to make our home a better place.

Today, we celebrate clean air day and every year, air pollution causes up to 36,000 deaths in the UK.  The World Health Organisation and the UK Government recognise that air pollution is the largest environmental health risk we face today.

Tips on how to be part of the movement:
Use energy efficient appliances.
Avoid burning leaves, trash rubbish, and other materials.
Use environmentally safe paints and cleaning products whenever possible.

These are just a few ways things you can do.

This day is an important cause to remind ourselves that amidst all the thousand things happen every day, we should give focus, action, and urgency to this matter. In our HMOs, we encourage our housemates to be environmentally conscious because if we work hand in hand, a brighter and cleaner future awaits that will benefit all of us.
