We continue our posts on ‘Meet the board’ with Dave Mason.

Dave has been practising CranioSacral Therapy since 2016. He originally graduated in Radiological Health and Safety and worked in the Nuclear Industry, later specialising in safety culture improvement. Dave brings with him his experience of having worked on four different Boards, including the Rosehill Theatre in Cumbria.

She is our Registrar & Communications Officer. Here is a little more information about her!!
Marilyn joined the CSS board as Registrar and Company Secretary in 2023. She has worked for Upledger Institute UK since 2018, where she is Office Manager, looking after the course and student admin.

Prior to that, she worked in advertising and ran her own children’s clothing company.

She lives near Lewes with her partner, three children and a lot of animals.

This quote by Dr. Upledger is at the heart of Upledger CranioSacral Therapy and is the foundation for its paradigm. Ours bodies have an innate inner wisdom to help us heal.

Have you seen our membership directory ? We have 3 levels of membership. QUALIFIED MEMBERS:- Have undertaken the core levels of the Upledger Institute Training & have passed their Techniques Examination (CST-T) which involves in-depth study, plus written & practical assessments. Some Qualified Members have also achieved a higher level of examination based around the SomatoEmotional Release work, & they will have the initials CST-D after their name. NETWORK MEMBERS have completed at least CST1 with the Upledger Institute & are already a practising insured therapist of other disciplines. STUDENT MEMBERS:- are currently enrolled in the Training from Scratch programme specifically with the Upledger Institute UK, in order to become a CST practitioner. They may not have a core therapy background, but have student insurance & are actively engaged in training. Check out our links in profile to search our membership directory.

Over the next few weeks we will introduce you to our board. The first :- Caroline Barrow. Caroline became Chair of the CSS board in 2023, having previously been the Liaison Officer for the Upledger Institute UK of which she is Director. She brings her years of experience working with the Upledger community, links with Upledger Institute International and with other satellite leaders, and as a therapist. She started her CST journey in 1999 after practising as a shiatsu therapist for five years, integrating it with meridian work, visceral manipulation and her love of anatomy. She had a practise in Brighton and spends her time between CSS board meetings teaching CST courses, A&P courses and her two children.

A great way to start a Wednesday with a post AGM catch up with our CSS board. It was such an amazing AGM with wonderful people. I hope you have managed to see the film by now! The final presentation of our AGM was .oneill talking on The Vagus nerve, how it shows up in clinic and how we deal with it. This was all finished off with a beautiful multi hands session.

Our AGM continued yesterday with the wonderful Efterpi Rompoti presenting her case study ‘successful application of craniosacral therapy in a case of acute ptosis following a Covid-19 infection’ we are pleased to say it has been published in ‘The Journal of Transformative Touch ‘ We hope it inspires others to produce more case studies to help validate this wonderful work!!! We are honoured to have David B***n., The founder of B***ns insurance with us today at our AGM. He is talking about ‘What the law, good practise and common sense requires of us ‘ Helping us maintain the highest of standards that we uphold as therapists and an organisation.

CranioSacral Therapy was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger. Dr Upledger served from 1975-1983 as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics at the college of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University. It was during those years that his team of anatomists, physiologists, biophysicists, and bioengineers was tasked with performing experiments to test the existence and influence of the craniosacral system. The results of those scientific studies explained the function of the craniosacral system, and its use in evaluating and treating poorly understood malfunctions of the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Upledger went onto develop CranioSacral Therapy and other complementary modalities that are now taught worldwide to healthcare professionals through Upledger Institute international’s educational programs. The CranioSacral Society support these professional who are trained and qualified through these programmes.

Saturday night at the movies !! Did you know we have been working on a short film to show the difference Upledger Craniosacral Therapy can make in people’s lives. We are pleased to say that it is called ‘The Missing Piece’ and it will be getting its premiere on Saturday 8th June after the AGM at 4pm we are also working on ways to livestream it so stay tuned!
