*BRIGHTON NAKBA MARCH*
Sunday 19th May
The Brighton & Hove Ceasefire Coalition of over 20 groups calls on the people of the city to come out to mark the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, the 'catastrophe' when 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from, or forced to flee their homeland.
We are also asking you to help carry 1,000 handwritten ribbons, each with the name of a Palestinian child killed in the ongoing genocide in Gaza, made as part of the local "Know Their Names" project.
📍Assemble 12 noon
Palmeira Sq, Hove BN3 2JB
Let's make this huge! 🇵🇸✊
Farewell to an alluring : elegant programme, excellent screening rooms, soulless setting, film nurturing, low attendances...
We saw some promising filmmaking, a few really solid works...and then we experienced EUREKA -easily one of the best films in recent years, with a director operating at a different level.
Our highlights:
EUREKA (L. Alonso)
UN PRINCE (P. Creton)
THROUGH THE GRAVES... (T. Wilkerson)
GASOLINE RAINBOW (Ross brothers)
MAST-DEL (M. Tafakory)
Hopefully see you next year LPA International Film Festival

⬛ MARCH IN BLACK FOR GAZA
◼️Meet 12pm Palmeira Sq BN3 2FA ending at Victoria Gardens.
◼️Join a big, visual procession through the city in solidarity with the people of Gaza, to say we will not be complicit in Israel's ongoing genocide & to demand our political leaders act to end it.

💣*No bombs from Brighton! Let's shut L3Harris down!* 🇵🇸
Join us on Saturday to march against Israel's genocidal assault on Palestinians and take a stand against weapons being made in an arms factory in Brighton and Hove.
🗓️ *Sat 24 Feb 2024*
⏰ *12pm at The Level Brighton*
📌*Short route 2pm Moulsecoomb station*
29,000+ men, women and children have been killed in Gaza since October 7 2023. ✈️ 💣 L3Harris, the 12th largest weapons manufacturer in the world, makes bomb release mechanisms for F-35 fighter jets being used by Israel to kill Palestinians.
👉 *DRESS IN BLACK, share widely, bring art, signs, shrouds, flowers and children's shoes for the vigil.*
We refuse to be complicit. Let's keep the pressure on and kick L3Harris out of our city!
We demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire now and an arms embargo on Israel.

The next instalment of SYNCH PULSE heads to The Rose Hill on 24/1 (after an excellent first instalment which we were glad to have as part of the 21st CINECITY)
Devoted to screening experimental shorts, this free entry film night is geared towards the uninitiated as well as devotees of underground movies and alternative soundtracks - compiled and presented by Brighton artist-filmmaker and electronic music composer, Ian Helliwell.
Selecting a different theme for every event, each one will include local and international avant-garde shorts from past and present, reflecting a wide range of experimental film, animation and documentaries with an emphasis on electronic sound. The hope is to create an ongoing series of short film programmes - plus occasional discussions with experimental filmmakers - to create a nexus for independent, left field movies.
This second Synch Pulse event and the first to be held at the Rose Hill venue is themed around dance.
7pm, Wednesday 24th January, free entry.
