Health matters
For everyone interested in health and well-being related topics. Health is expressed by rhythmic impulses in the body that can be palpated by sensitive hands.
With Biodynamic CranioSacral therapy, the body’s own priorities for change are listened for and encouraged to arise. The art of the therapist is to connect with the underlying forces of health and facilitate a process of natural reorganisation. These forces express as subtle motion of tissues and fluids that can be felt by sensitive hands. Biodynamic CranioSacral therapy takes a whole-person appro
A very good description of how it can be.
BIODYNAMICS IN CLINICAL PRACTICE
Rollin Becker gave us the inspiring concept of the Inherent Treatment Plan. A wonderful principle which explains how the Intelligence that Sutherland attributed to the Potency is in charge of any healing process. In much of our clinical work we rely on this principle – starting with relational touch we attune to the tide, deepen into the holistic shift and wait for a sequence of priorities arising from within to guide our hands.
Yet frequently in sessions that is not what happens. The Inherent Treatment Plan cannot be accessed. This may be because of excessive traumatic activation, acute physical symptoms or chronic disease. Because so much Potency is tied up in protecting the organism, in centring the historical insults stored as tissue memory, that there is not enough ‘free’ Potency available to initiate and direct healing. In those sessions, we have to rely on supporting safety in the rational field and using our diagnostic and therapeutic touch to point the struggling system back towards its blueprint of optimal function.

Working with Tinnitus
Whatever the complaint, when someone comes to me for help I am just as interested in the whole person as the symptom. In practice this means opening up a conversation about their life, work, relationships and family. We might discuss their sleep patterns, digestion, what stress they experience and how they spend their leisure time. I am interested in what may be contributing to this heightened sensitivity in their auditory system.
I place my hands on the body, usually the feet or head. As a craniosacral therapist, I can feel how people hold themselves. People with tinnitus typically hold tension in their body as a response to feeling overwhelmed. They may be used to functioning well under stress and not even realise this.
Over a number of sessions I encourage the individual to notice how their body feels and offer support through direct contact until they begin to feel calm and clear. The experience of safety when reinforced, provides a platform for letting go at a deep level.
Tinnitus can be very persistent so when a client reports that the noise has reduced considerably I know we are on the right path. What’s wonderful in cases like this, is that they have started to heal themselves as a whole and consequently the symptom has diminished.

How craniosacral therapy can undo trauma Craniosacral therapy, which comes out of the osteopathic tradition, can be explained using para-medical language and is not ‘a whole lot of mumbo-jumbo’. Lounge talks to practitioners to find out how it works
A gentle and supportive therapeutic approach is so often the best.
This is very sweet. I was working with a little child recently. She hadn't been to see me for a couple of years and couldn't remember it.
She laid on the treatment table, mum sat right next to her. I placed my hands gently on her shoulders and a few seconds later, a tear came from each eye. She calmly wiped them away and said, 'Oh! I have tears for no reason.'
She didn't feel sad or any particular emotion but there had been a release. This is often how it goes in Craniosacral Therapy. I loved how she accepted what was and wasn't in the least bit phased by it. If only we could just allow what needs to happen to happen, without judging or worrying.
I offer a gentle, hands-on, non-invasive yet effective approach, working directly with the body’s natural capacity for self repair, to treat a wide range of conditions. It often helps those suffering chronic symptoms that haven’t been aided by other approaches.
Appointments are available at The Garden Practice in Hove. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have about my practice or, how craniosacral therapy may help you.
Patient’s tend to see their situation in terms of symptoms or a condition. They don’t on the whole say “can you enhance my underlying vitality please.” So it is appropriate to talk in terms of the various conditions that patients experience and for which they seek symptomatic relief. But ultimately cranio-sacral integration is effectively precisely because it promotes the body’s own healing potential allowing the body to deal with the stresses of life and to be healthy.
Nice to come across this useful graphic. I use this kind of thing a lot in my practice.

FOCUSED TOUCH AND EXPANSIVE TOUCH
The drop and the ocean
Picture an ocean, a wide, deep, vast pool of water. Each drop within it is of the ocean and knows the ocean. Yet a sun-drenched drop off a tropical beach has a different encounter with the ocean from a drop in a glacial fjord.
The fluid body is like an ocean. Our touch can connect to the infinite expanse of this living ocean or focus on a single drop and attune to the story it stows. Both are equally important on a journey towards optimal wellness; both form an essential part of our practice.
