I feel excited but also pretty glum because I’ve just found out that our Business Rates are increasing at from the 1st April ‘25 . 😔

It’s such a blow for retail and I’m sure we will see so many large shops closing next year. They (the government) say they will do a big reform of business rates to make it fairer, but that won’t be until 2026 and it’ll be too late.

But one day at a time and now it’s time to focus on CHRISTMAS!!!! Let’s make it a bloody good one! I’m doing a big sale on work from tomorrow right until Christmas. 10-20% off everything to clear old stock so I can concentrate on new designs

It’s set up day and one of the first things on the trolly had to be this guy. ❤️🥰 it always catches peoples eyes at market stalls so if you’ve won any awards! Shout about them

To make back the overheads of the Bristol Broadmead Market I’m going to have to sell around 350 lamps (mixture of cable lamps and wooden bases). Possible?? We’re going to give it a bloody good go!

Late night working tonight again but weekend off for a trip to Scotland for Granny Priors birthday!!! 🎁 I’ll sleep on the train :)

Whilst I’ve been measuring market sheds at , measuring shop windows at and adding copious amounts of stock to our system, , like the magical elf she is, has hand sanded and wax-oiled this army of vessels!

Both are a final attempt to save PRIOR. We are still in deficit from the huge business rates bill and it’s my GO BIG OR GO HOME attempt in getting more revenue during the peak season.

I’ve had quite a lot of ‘repairs’ to do. Word is out and people are brining in their precious lamps for either fixing or modifying.

This lamp had an ugly plastic cable and an equally ugly lamp holder. I replaced the lamp holder with a brass one (with a vintage effect), added a natural linen cable to the customers length requirements and added a rocker switch.

Lauren managed to make me feel at ease even though I was deeeeeaaaadly embarrassed having these taken with customers in the shop…!

It’s a known fact that my brain works a million miles faster than my hands. It’s also well known that I get excited with new ideas/projects :)

The problem with this style of working is I am always investing in new processes and materials, when I have shelves full of half finished ‘original’ designs.

I am adjusting and next year so they are both more sustainable and viable, and, more importantly so I can have more time doing what I love - designing and fabricating products and other site specific artwork.

So, for you lucky people this means I want to really clear my studio. I want to get all my shelves clear so I can start working on new designs, new shapes and new products and projects.

Lauren has been VERY busy making lots of pendant lamps for our Christmas market stall at and sales 🧡

I’m making so many custom lamps at the moment!

This one is a matching ceiling rose (made in Birmingham) and two pendant fittings with shade rings. One is 4m in length and the other 1m as per the customers request.

I know, I know…. it sounds absolutely bonkers but in an industry that relies on this ‘golden shopping period’, it’s so important to be ready! I’m working extra hard this year as I have big plans for 2025 and need to maximise every opportunity!

Over the last two weeks I’ve been either sleeping and coughing at home (prob had Covid), or running around like a malfunctioning firework (much to my teams enjoyment 😅) trying to get all of the logistics together for our new coffee/cafe offering.

Amongst all of this, a customer orders a mini geo vessel online. It’s out of stock. Without me even being aware of the situation, let alone of the order, a brand new one is drilled, hand painted, shaped, oiled and ready for the customer, just like frickin’ magic.
