Big news: I’m tackling a huge challenge this summer and will be raising money for Variety so need your help.

I’ll be hiking up to the peak of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain.

It’s an 8 day trek with an average of 5 to 7 hours trekking each day, except for the ascent of Uhuru Peak which involves 12 to 14 hours of trekking. I’ll be trekking at altitudes between 3000 m/9843 ft and 5000 m/16405 ft and reaching a maximum altitude of 5895 m/19341 ft.

This will help fundraising for Daz's Rock 4 Charity who support Variety, the Children's Charity. He has raised enough to buy a minibus and I’m hoping to raise enough to fund many great trips out in it for disabled children.

Phew! Thankfully that’s over - Bath Half Marathon. Shaved 11 minutes off my previous time so chuffed that all the training paid off.

Thanks to all the spectators who kept cheering everyone the whole way.

If you didn’t catch it I’d highly recommend the set by Texas at Amazing drumming from Cat Myers. A real inspiration for future female drummers.

Face to face drum lessons restart

With the new announcement about more things opening up from 12th April I’m pleased to say drum lessons can start back face to face after that date.

So if your kids fancy trying something new or you want to learn something different - what about drum lessons?

I'm a fully qualified teacher with DBS clearance. I've got bags of patience and my aim is for my students to have a great deal of fun and boost their confidence while building their musical and coordination skills.

It's been so great seeing my drum students back with face to face lessons this week (with suitable distancing and cleaning regime in place). They were fantastic and keen to learn much more.

New students are now also welcome either face to face at my music room without or with our drums at home or online if do you have some drums at home.

Drum lessons update: The Musicians’ Union have now changed their guidelines on instrument teaching based on the latest government easing of restrictions. It means I can now immediately start teaching face to face again.

Remote lessons have worked great so thanks to everyone who has embraced them. We'll keep them going for a while, of course for those that prefer them.

New students are now welcome either face to face at my music room without or with our drums at home or online if do you have some drums at home.

In light of the government statement and from advice from the Musicians’ Union, of which I’m a member, I shall immediately stop face-to-face drum lessons at least until after the Easter break.

I have successfully given live online lessons through WhatsApp, FaceTime and Skype and extend my thanks to those students who have embraced this new way of doing things.

I’m sorry I have to do this but I feel it’s the responsible way for now.

Claire's Drumming and Teaching drum tuition

Amazing night last night at The Fleece. Met one of my drumming heroes - the mighty Clem Burke. Such a powerful drummer and Bootleg Blondie are a great band. All played with a lot of energy and skill.
Drum students could learn a lot from the way Clem puts in maximum effort and strikes the drums really cleanly creating a great solid sound.

First drum lessons of the new term complete and happy faces all round. It’s good to be back and hearing some cool rhythms.

QI - Quite Interesting

Children who do music classes do significantly better in Maths, English and Science than those who don’t. They do so well, they’re about an academic year ahead by the time they reach their final year of school.
