The marigolds we use for companion planting are looking beautiful at the moment, the sunshine over the last few days has given everything a boost!

We know it is only July, and a little too early to think about Christmas but we are pleased to say we will be back at Bath Christmas Market again this year on Abbey Green.

Finally! After the sunshine of the last few days we have chillies!

Beautiful morning up on the farm!!!

About time too as the chillies have been struggling with the cold nights and lack of any appreciable sunshine. 😞

Hopefully now, the summer will kick in and our little plants will flourish.

Today was planting the Jalapeño tunnel, slightly later this year due to it needing a new cover due to storm damage earlier in the year. Maisy the farm dog was happy to supervise!

Planting out has started for this year!

We planted Marigold seeds today in the tunnels. We use Marigolds for companion planting for the chillies to help reduce aphids. We have done this for a few years now and it does seem to work! Butterfly’s seem to love the tunnels too!

This week is being spent tidying and sorting the tunnels in advance of the seedlings being planted next month. We usually plant out the second week in May depending on the weather!

All of this year’s seedlings have now been potted on and are keeping warm on the heated mat covered in fleece! Over the next month we will tidy the tunnels and get ready for planting early May!

It definitely felt like Spring in the poly tunnels today, so lovely to feel the warmth of the sun. The heated mat has come out of hibernation which can only mean one thing, potting on day! First wave of chillies repotted and second wave planted! Let’s hope they are cosy under the fleece!

Seedlings are doing well! Even more chilli babies now!

We have chilli babies! Even after 14 years of growing chillies, it is still exciting when we see the first seedlings!

Was a very nervous walk to check on the tunnels this morning after the storm last night. One tunnel was damaged in the last storm a few weeks ago and thankfully the other four are still intact! A job for the Spring cover a poly tunnel! Hoping that’s the end of the storms for a while!
