After 4 months of work, I finally signed off a 12-track stem mix and master project for a long-defunct prog rock band out of Ohio called The Concord. It's brilliant stuff; virtuoso playing and a very English-sounding singer with a sense of humour and a talent for storytelling. My client (the vocalist) kept all their old recordings and wanted to have them polished up properly as a memento. The performances and writing are superb across the board, and it was an absolute pleasure to work on. Mike had some very kind words to say at the end, too :) The tracks will be available very soon on The Concord's Bandcamp page, I'll make a post about it when its out because if you like that kind of thing, you'll love this kind of thing.

Ektoplazm is back! The legendary free electronic music portal returns after its hiatus with a superb EP by Phillax Austerberry, one of the most talented musicians it has been my pleasure to know. I was very happy to master a track this week for the incredible Skyler Jett, a Grammy-recognised vocalist who was singer with the Commodores after Lionel Richie and who has sung, arranged and performed with Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Quincy Jones, Lionel Richie, Sting, Ray Charles, James Brown, Chaka Khan and a list of others longer than my hair. A super-catchy pop song about our favourite herb... who knows, maybe you'll hear it on the radio at some point!

Looks like my next mastering project might well be a noise/industrial EP for digital and vinyl release.

In the last week or so I've stem mixed and mastered another selection of prog rock songs for a returning client, created a video compilation of masters I made of another client's funk band live recordings, mastered a whole bunch of psytrance for various artists, done a handful of remote mix finalisation sessions (one more than 4 hours polishing 3 tracks) from psytrance to techno, and mastered an EP of what I can only describe as "Future Trap" which the client was very happy with (see pic).

According to the engineer who mixed it, I just mastered a track written by the guy who wrote the theme tune to Spongebob Squarepants. Apparently he was "super happy" with it.

It's not every day you get this kind of feedback from someone whose work inspired the earlier days of your own journey as an artist. I'm honoured to have had a hand in the sound of Shpongle's most-recent live recording.

Another successful remote mix session completed :) It's amazing how much of an improvement can be made to a track in 2 short hours. It's great fun too, and a good way of helping people to level up their listening skills and home in on Good Sound. The client has booked another session for 2 weeks time - their fourth with me so far - and I'm really looking forward to it. Good material, friendly client, the joy of making stuff sound great; what's not to love? :D
