Introducing Adam!
Adam joined us a few weeks ago and is already a busy and valued member of the team.
Adam earned a first-class Masters in Osteopathy after completing his four-years of training at Swansea University. His main motivation stems from helping individuals achieve comfort and freedom within their bodies while promoting musculoskeletal health for performance and longevity.
Adam primarily employs a hands-on approach, utilising a variety of structural techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, stretch techniques and spinal manipulation. He values a personalised approach to treatment, recognising that each person has unique circumstances, needs and objectives, and will offer relevant lifestyle advice and exercises that align with this perspective.
Adam’s previous experience spans 7 years in the Scottish Highlands, guiding individuals along classic ridgelines during the summers and working as a ski patroller in the winters. He holds several outdoor qualifications including the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor.
Through personal experiences with various sports related injuries and witnessing others face similar challenges, he developed a keen interest in outdoor sports related ailments.
During his free time, he can be found rock climbing, ski touring and playing his harmonica at open mic nights.
Adam has recently moved back to his hometown of Bristol and is excited to join the team at Wells Road.
Osteopaths are really good at getting rid of pain.
Pain is probably the main reason people come to see us. It is when things hurt that we often are driven to find a solution as patients, and here at Bristol Osteopaths we are experts at helping find the source of your pain and helping to alleviate it.
People often get relief from the very first session. We also explain to you what is going on and why you are experiencing problems or pain, delivering a tailor made treatment plan.
Pain is usually a sign that something is wrong. Let alone he fact it hurts and effects our quality of life. Get in touch to see how we can help you.
UNSUNG HERO POST
I have been meaning to post about Sue for a while. She is an absolute godsend to our clinics. We call her Super Sue, our 'go to' for reception cover for holidays and sickness. This last year in particular she has been on lunch cover most days while Katy has needed time off, and so often is able to step in to get us out of a hole at a moments notice, like yesterday when Jon needed time off to be with his dog who is recuperating from emergency surgery.
She is a wonderful receptionist and a joyous member of our team. And is always the last one standing on our clinic socials... 3am dancing at Christmas! Everytime!
And this week she celebrates her 70th birthday!
Have a wonderful time celebrating Sue. Thank you for being part of our clinics.
When you come to see us at Bristol Osteopaths, we take time to find out what is wrong and why. We take a detailed case history from you but we also take our time to do a thorough examination. Looking at how your body moves gives us so much information to not only get you feeling better, but to keep it better and stop a problem recurring.

This week marks the 150th anniversary since the inception of Osteopathy.
Our practice has links to the very first Osteopaths with one of our founding Osteopaths having been related to John Martin Littlejohn who was a pivotal figure in osteopathic origins.
Osteopathy became a regulated profession in 1993 and since then only qualified and registered professionals can use the term Osteopath.
Foot Health Clinic
We have three wonderful Foot Health professionals working at the clinics 4 days a week. If your feet need a summer tune up now is the time.
Foot health practitioners deal with the external workings of the feet. They remove corns, hard skin, fungal infections affecting the skin and nails, and ingrown or infected toenails.
You will always have a warm welcome at Bristol Osteopaths.
From walking through the door and being greeted by our incredible reception team, to being taken to the treatment room with your practitioner, you will be well cared for.
New patients can usually be offered a treatment within 24hrs of contacting us. If you have been thinking about booking you are more than welcome to give us a call and chat through with us about how we can help.
What to expect when you take your baby or child to see the osteopath
We have welcomed many babies and children through the doors of our clinic over the years. Many people know about osteopathy for children but are curious about what it entails.
We start by taking a case history, for young babies this may include your birth story and for this there will be time to reflect or gather your thoughts ahead of the appointment and write them down. We will start by screening for any health conditions that may need medical attention and will refer you with a letter should you need to see your doctor.
The physical assessment is gentle and usually enjoyable for the patient. With babies this includes appropriate reflex testing and gentle movements of most of the joints. With children we work through a number of active movements together based around imaginary play to look at how the body moves, this can be fun.
We will explain what we have found and then, if suitable begin treatment. For children and babies this is usually a gentle approach incorporating cranial techniques and light touch often to the head, ribs or pelvis. It may also involve stretching or gentle joint movements and with children some gentle massage. It should be comfortable and will be adapted based on the needs and response of your baby or child. The treatment can help to soothe and relax your baby or gently address strains and stresses in your child.
Osteopathy works on the basis that the structure and function of the body and mind are closely related work to restore healthy balance. It is a safe for all ages and will be tailored to the needs of your child or baby. The session may also include suitable, informed advice, support and exercise therapy.
Jeni is holds a post graduate certification in specialist paediatric osteopathic practice (PGCert SPOP). She has been practising at our Wells Road clinic for almost 9 years and studied at Europe’s largest osteopathic clinic in London, the University College of Osteopaths.
Felix is off on a new adventure in Australia at the end of the month. We are so sad to see him go, but wish him well and are all a teeny bit jealous!! He would be mad to let this opportunity pass him by and he has grabbed it by the horns!
You can still see him at Wells Road until the end of June. We already have an amazing new team member lined up... but more about that later.
Women's Health Physio Sophie Street still has a couple of spaces for new clients this Saturday at Wells Road. Sophie is at Queen Charlotte Street on Tuesdays too.
Anytime from 6 weeks post natal, or even a few years after giving birth this is a great assessment to get your pelvic health and fitness where you want it to be!

One of the best parts of being a big clinic is that we can learn so much from each other. Last night we had a team training evening practising and revising osteopathic technique.
The beauty is everyone brings knowledge along and shares it and everyone learns and leaves with new information and revised skills.
Whether we have been qualified over 30 years or newly graduated there is always room for improvement, thought sharing and learning.
And then there was pizza to enjoy too!

Patient's say it best!
We are thrilled to tell you that we now offer Mummy MOT’s at Bristol Osteopaths.
The Postnatal Check You Deserve – What is a Mummy MOT?
Up to half of all women experience weakness in both the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor muscles after pregnancy and up to a third still have a tummy gap at eight weeks post-birth. This can cause instability or poor core strength leading to women developing pelvic or back pain or bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction. These conditions should not be something you should just put up with as a result of having a baby.
It’s recommended that women have an initial assessment at 6-8 weeks postnatal, but we also treat women who gave birth years ago that may still have a tummy gap or related pelvic floor issues. It is never too late!
Sophie Street, Womens Health Physio is holding monthly Saturday clinics at Wells Road and is at Queen Charlotte Street on Mondays.
Sophie will be working closely with our Womens Health Osteopaths to ensure you have the best care possible.

We regularly take our patients blood pressure!
The news today says millions of over 40's should get their blood pressure checked as they may have undiagnosed hypertension (high blood pressure).
You can always ask us to check yours when you are in next especially if it haven't been done for a while.
I struggle to find the words to convey the complexity of this day.
To the mothers out there finding it hard;
To the mothers out there who miss their former selves;
To the women who long to be mothers;
To the mothers who have lost a child;
To the mothers with difficult or strained relationships;
To those of you missing a mother;
To those of you grieving a mother;
To those of you smashing it as a mother;
You are all ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
I am honoured each and every day that my patients trust me in my role as a Women’s Health Osteopath, to share their stories, heartbreak, fears, tears, laughter, joy and every other emotion you could imagine. The treatment room is a special place where these things come to the surface, as if the body and mind know that’s how healing happens.
Mothering; the hardest, most important, most amazing and most wonderful journey there is.
Happy Mother’s Day all.

Meet Ben! Our new Rolfer.
Here is what he has to say...
I first discovered Rolfing® 6 years ago when I was suffering with chronic back and knee pain. I had tried everything except surgery, but any relief I felt was short lived.
After discovering Rolfing, I was blown by by the results and long-lasting changes after one session. The amount of movement range that I regained in my ankle was mind-blowing. I didn’t even realise how much range I had lost, until it was restored by just one session of Rolfing. A few years later, I decided to become a certified Rolfer® myself.
My journey to become a certified Rolfer began during the lockdowns in 2021. I realised I needed a work/life balance in my life, and that my passion for bringing balance in the body made me a perfect candidate to study Rolfing.
In our modern world of desk jobs and sedentary lifestyles, we need inspiring, life changing therapies like Rolfing that can change the way we use and experience our bodies for good. The way I see it, the only way to truly understand Rolfing is to experience it. If it wasn’t for this amazing modality, I dread to think where I’d be at now with my physical health and mobility.
So here I am, now working as a certified Rolfing practitioner after graduating from the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute (DIRI) in Boulder, Colorado.
I look forward to meeting and working with you
Osteopathy is not just bones and muscles!! Osteopathy is not just necks and backs!
Osteopathic degrees contain a LOT of medical knowledge and training to ensure we can safely diagnose and treat our patients.
We are very good at picking up conditions which are serious and need to be referred on to a different practitioner. We routinely liase with GPs to ask for scans, blood tests for referrals and sometimes more urgent action is needed.
In this last 10 days alone we have sent two patients to hospital from clinic with a cover letter explaining our reasoning to help fast-track them on arrival to hospital. Both instances have proved to be the correct course of action and the appropriate and urgent care they needed was given.
This is part of our job and its why we take your full case history and ask lots of questions to allow us to know your story. The devil is in the detail!
Osteopaths are skilled clinicians and and and that is part of what makes you safe in our hands.
"I could hear the laughter, it sounded such fun"
What a brilliant comment I had from a patient yesterday when I told her she would really benefit from joining some of Leannes pilates classes . And she had heard how much fun was happening in the studio from the waiting room!
We LOVE having Sona Pilates and Leanne on site at Wells Road. Leanne is so warm and kind and yes laughter is a regular theme in all her classes. Because learning to move your body in a more mindful regulated way is easier when it come a place of ease and feeling relaxed. We don't take it so seriously that we can't have fun with the movement too!
All the details of her classes are here . Give them try!
We are open! Give us a call if you need an appointment or book online..link in bio
