DIY Cinema
An evening of short films in the Old Malt House, Bristol.
Thanks to everyone who came to see WHITE DISK. The film is a true testament to unsuppressed, unvetted creativity. If you ever felt like you are struggling with mastering your passion watch 's film and learn that all that matters is your intentions, integrity and curiosity. Whether you want to call it post modern or post punk it's post-post-post netflix compliant cameras and a stifling inaccessible industry on the brink of collapse. This is archiving the characters and communities that are owed to us.
6/6/24 AT THE ILL REPUTE ---- An experimental fly-on-the-wall documentary about Mark, followed by Lydia our obtrusive observer, deployed with a handicam and a head full of questions. Mark is a cleaner by trade and an experienced character model by passion. He’s seen it all and wants to share his story and Lydia is keen to dive in and see what he gets up to. White Disk is a true testament to DIY as its punk sensibility highlights two characters on and off camera, interested in life a what to do with it. Think American Movie and Grey Gardens.

We are back!
With a brand new format. We are teaming up with to programme some feature films in Bristol and first off we are screening LEAVING LAS VEGAS (1995). A surprisingly brutal romantic comedy starring Elisabeth Shue and Nicolas Cage, which we think marks a strange golden era of 90’s odd ball Hollywood success.
We will also be screening a great short film called BLIGHTY. A darkly comedic short made with a single roll of 16mm, starring Bruce Jones. Made by Bristol Filmmaker
This is a collaboration with Bristol Community Radio Station LongThrow Radio and , funded by the West of England Visual Arts Fund.

DIY Cinema at the Latch
A short film event with a focus on community and collaboration. The Latch wants you to bring your own films, films you’ve watched and want to share and films you haven’t watched and want to experience with your friends and strangers in Bristol. Our team plan to curate an evening of short films with different themes each month. Please help us to choose what gets shown and what we discuss at our screenings. We want to showcase filmmakers from all different walks of life, not only the casual Coppalas.
