You know we love a Good Boy in our Brew Bar. And we can't blame it for wanting a sip - those noses don't lie.
If you've been to our Brew Bar, you've almost certainly seen Will at the filter station brewing up some delicious filter coffees. Select any variety from our roster and watch Will work his very, very precise magic.
We don't shout about it enough, so here we go - the Brew Bar has A BEAUTIFUL COURTYARD. You guys are always so chuffed to find out that you can have your drinks / cakes / lunch sitting outside in the sun (sun not guaranteed*), so we thought we would show it to those who weren't in the know. A peek into a day in the life of a Wogan Coffee Barista: coffee cupping, latte art, cake restocking, and more coffee cupping. Basically, living the dream.
Ever wondered what 'cupping' is? It's a method used to evaluate and compare the aroma and flavour profiles of different coffees. It helps to assess the quality, as well as characteristics. After the coarsely ground coffee has steeped for around 4 minutes, a crust of grounds forms on the surface. We then 'break the crust' with a spoon, which releases delicious aromatic compounds. Then, we slurp! This helps to aerate the coffee and helps us to distinguish the unique flavour notes for each coffee. Then, we score the coffee based on aroma, flavour, aftertaste, acidity, body, blance, sweetness, uniformity, and clean cup. Cupping is used at all steps in the industry - from coffee growers, to roasters and buyers to ensure its quality and identify if there are any defects. At Wogan Coffee, this is a daily occurrence, and if you hang around long enough in our Brew Bar, you will almost definitely see us having a go! P.S.
