💪🌟5 Top Tips to help you prepare the night before a battle!

🏆 Visualise Success:
Mentally visualise yourself succeeding in the battle. Imagine executing your moves flawlessly and captivating the audience and judges.
Envision potential scenarios and plan how you will adapt to different situations during the battle. Mental preparation can enhance your confidence and readiness.

💤 😴 Get a good night’s sleep!
Prioritise this to ensure your body is well-rested and ready to perform. Sleep is crucial for physical recovery and mental sharpness.
·Incorporate relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or gentle stretching before bed. Avoid staying up late or engaging in activities that may interfere with your sleep quality.

💦 🥘 Stay Hydrated and Nourished:
Hydration is key for optimal performance. Drink plenty of water the night before and on the day.
Consume a balanced meal that includes carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats. Avoid heavy or unfamiliar foods that may cause discomfort during the battle.

🧘🏻‍♀️ Relaxation Techniques:
Engage in relaxation techniques to calm pre-battle nerves. Deep breathing exercises, meditation, or listening to calming music can help reduce anxiety.
Avoid overthinking or obsessing about the competition. Instead, focus on positive thoughts and trust in your preparation.

📝 Prepare Your Gear:

Check and pack everything you need for the battle; trainers/spare pair, extra clothes, headspin hats, knee/elbow pads etc.
Bring some water and snacks to keep you going between rounds!

Remember, confidence and mental composure are as important as your physical abilities in a breakdance battle. Trust in your training, stay focused, and enjoy the experience 😁

Bonus tip – remember to have FUN! 😉

🤓 Kinesiology tape - how does it work? 🧐

Many people ask me this! I regularly use tape in the clinic as part of a broader treatment plan for an injury and have often found positive results for my clients who use it. It is still not totally understood how it works and the scientific evidence is mixed, some studies suggest that it can provide benefits in terms of pain relief and muscle support, while others do not show significant advantages over placebos or other treatments.
_
😊However, based on personal experience and results with clients, it’s definitely worth trying for yourself! Here are some of the benefits it may provide when applied correctly:
_
🌟 Pain Relief and Comfort - by providing support to injured muscles and joints. It may reduce pressure on pain receptors and improve blood flow, which can help reduce discomfort. The support can also make it feel safer to move the injured area, reducing the effects of stiffness which can build due to lack of movement.

💪 Muscle Support - when applied strategically, the tape can provide support to weakened or injured muscles. This can help prevent further strain or injury during physical activity and promote better muscle function.

⬆️ Increased Circulation - the tape is designed to be breathable and stretchable. Its application can enhance blood and lymphatic circulation in the affected area, which may aid in reducing swelling and inflammation.

⬇️ Reduced Swelling and Inflammation - by gently lifting the skin and underlying tissues, tape may reduce the accumulation of fluid and inflammation in the injured area. This can be particularly helpful for conditions like sprains and strains.

⚡️Enhanced Proprioception - this refers to your body's awareness of its position in space. Tape can enhance proprioception by providing sensory feedback to the brain. This improved awareness may help maintain better control and stability during movement.

🤸🏾 Non-Restrictive Movement- unlike rigid athletic tape, kinesio tape is designed to allow for a full range of motion. It doesn't restrict movement, making it suitable for use during physical activities.

👉Whether you’re coming to see me due to a sports injury, stress, lack of mobility or a chronic health condition - here are a few ways massage therapy can help as part of your treatment plan:

🔸 Pain relief - massage can help alleviate various types of pain, including muscle tension, chronic pain and headaches. It can improve circulation and blood flow to sore areas and help release trigger points.

🔸Injury recovery and enhanced athletic performance - if you’ve had a recent injury or surgery, certain types of massage can aid the recovery process by reducing swelling, managing scar tissue, improving circulation and alleviating pain.

🔸 Mental health support - massage can induce a deep state of relaxation, by promoting serotonin and dopamine which help reduce stress and anxiety. This is particularly helpful when you’re dealing with pain or injury, or just the stresses of life!

🔸 Muscle relaxation- it can help loosen tight muscles and reduce muscle spasms, improving mobility and range of movement. This is especially beneficial if you work at a desk, are physically active or stressed.

🔸 Better sleep - many clients find that they feel more relaxed and calm following massage, which promotes better sleep quality and patterns.

🔸 Improved posture - by addressing imbalances and muscle tension contributing to posture related pain.

🔸Enhanced body-mind connection - this is a really important one in m! Many clients find that they become more in tune with their body and how it feels. For example, ability to correct their posture or technique, knowing when they need to rest or adapt their training loads and the difference between normal muscle soreness vs injury.

🔸 Self care - it’s a chance to take a bit of time out to focus on your wellbeing. I also use some wonderful therapeutic oils to enhance this experience.

🙌 These are just a few of the benefits. If you’d like to find out how massage therapy might be able to help you - drop me a message for a free 20 minute consultation call 📞 😊

🌟 Special mention to Toby 🌟
Just over a year ago, dancer Toby came to see me following a back injury (bulging disc), which was causing him intense pain and preventing him from dancing at full capacity. Toby was demoralised, exhausted, and left questioning his future career in dance.
_
Fast forward one year – Toby is at his strongest, most confident and has successfully gained a place at Italia Conti to continue his dance studies in September 💪 👏
_
“I’ve learnt how to look after myself as a dancer, knowing that sometimes it’s ok to step away and protect my body if I have an injury or a day that’s not feeling great. My body is my instrument and I’ve learnt to not keep pushing through pain or to breaking point, even if I feel that voice telling me not to stop.”
_
Over the past year, I have worked closely with Toby treating his back pain, but importantly, helping him to understand how to look after himself more effectively as a dancer and pursue his dream career.
Toby’s treatment plan has involved:

- hands on manual therapy

- specific strengthening exercises to help with imbalances and enable him to withstand the amount of training needed to perform at a high level

- functional and relevant warm up/cool downs to get the most out of his training

- smarter approach to training – knowing how much to “push” and when to rest

- developing a positive mindset when injured

- maintaining good habits

🌟 Testimonial - BBOY 🙏

“Massive shout out to Olivia. I am so grateful to be working with you! Breakin (breakdancing) can often be quite destructive on the body, especially if you are training a lot or practice risky movements. I’ve had countless injuries to my shoulders and have always struggled with my hip mobility.
_
Olivia has helped me massively, both at appointments and with prescribing exercises to do at home or when back in the gym. 🏋🏻‍♀️
_
I am on the road to some good working shoulders and hips, a move that’s always caused me bad hip pain is swipe to airflare, your hips need to be in the correct position and mine were always compromised, almost always feeling seized up. At the end of this video, it was my FIRST PAIN FREE swipe to air flare in years, this was after a week of treatment and following the exercises

💪“Back to Form: Office Rehab Talk For the British Institute of Verbatim Reporting.”
_
📣I recently delivered an interactive talk for the wonderful people of the BIVR on how to prevent injuries related to the repetitive nature of verbatim reporting and sitting down all day 🪑
_
The aim was to equip them with knowledge, awareness and practical tips including advice about desk set ups, stretches/exercises and self massage techniques. We had a great time and everyone appeared to come away with a new found enthusiasm and motivation to make some small changes to improve their physical well-being.
_
There was also a chance to have some soft tissue therapy, to relieve aches and pains - particularly in the wrists, forearms and shoulders.
_
🤩 Side note - verbatim reporting is such an interesting and technical field of work! They can type up to 200 words a minute 😳👏

🙋🏻‍♀️Hi! For those of you who are new to my page, I’m Olivia, Owner and Soft Tissue Therapist at Bristol Soft Tissue Therapy, based at Starks Fitness Harbourside.
_
🤸🏻‍♀️I have always been fascinated by movement, how the body works and how to push your body to its limits whilst keeping safe and injury free. As a b-girl (break-dancer) and former competitive gymnast, I have had to overcome numerous serious injuries myself. I found Soft Tissue Therapy extremely helpful during these times, which in turn, inspired me to become qualified myself and use it to help others.
_
🌟 I specialise in working with athletes, in particular, bboys/bgirls (dancers), acrobats, runners and cyclists. I work with all levels, from novice, right up to elite level. I understand the psychological impact of being in pain and the effect this can have on someone’s day to day life, goals and training. Therefore my approach to treatment and rehabilitation is "Person Centred” – I treat you as a human being, not simply a set of diagnoses or symptoms. I look closely at the biological, psychological and social factors that may be contributing towards your current pain or injury and tailor my treatment and care specifically to you. We then work together to overcome these and help you achieve your goals; whether that be training for a competition, race or simply to move more freely after being at your desk all day!
_
📞 If you’re in pain and struggling with what to do next or would like to find out how I can help you, then you can book a free 20 minute initial phone consultation via my website (link in my bio) or contact me directly here 😊

📣Here at I work to help clients with a range of issues, including lower back pain, overuse injuries/chronic pain and sports injuries.
_
This client came to see me recently after suffering with lower back pain for many years. She was experiencing one of her episodic flare ups, which left her with very limited range of movement, pain and a lot of anxiety. It was affecting her sleep and she was struggling to walk upright.
_
After assessing her, we spent some time first getting her to do some deep belly breathing techniques, to calm her nervous system down and encourage her to relax.
_
I then got her to do some gentle mobility exercises, specifically to mobilise the lumbar spine, as well as gently activate her glutes and core.
_
Once she was moving more comfortably, I used some manual therapy and massage techniques to reduce the muscle tension in and around her lower back, glutes and hips.
_
I was careful not to over work this area and keep the treatment relatively gentle so as not to trigger a reaction. The focus was on reducing the muscle spasms and allowing her body to know that it was safe for her to move.
_
After the treatment, we re-tested her movement and the difference was visibly notable! She was walking upright, moving much more freely and could no longer feel the pain. We then went through some stretches for the glutes, hamstrings and hip flexors. Moving forward, I will also be working with my client to improve her glute/core strength to offload the pressure on her lower back. This will help improve her ability to train in the gym safely, as well as counter the effects of a desk-based job.”
_
If you suffer from lower back pain, contact Olivia to find out how Soft Tissue Therapy could help you!
