The Lion is a family pub run by Fiona, David and Kieran (with Charity on standby) aided by the fantasic duo Mary and Andrew.
You will find us (eventually) bang smack in the middle of Cliftonwood. The pub itself is two hundred years old and we have maintained the old fashioned feel, including our open log fires, albeit with a slight modern twist. Our food is always prepared on the premises fresh to order and our Sunday lunches are pretty good too with Welsh lamb and beef from Crickhowell and pork form the Sheepway in Po
It is with the utmost sadness that we confirm the closure of The Lion in Cliftonwood- at least under our stewardship. We have had nearly 16 fantastic years of being at the helm of this wonderful, wonderful pub.
We have made some enduring friendships and been lucky enough to be at the very centre of this fabulous community.
The Lion and its community have grown with us over the years and we have been privileged to see many of the youngsters who were running around the park when we first arrived, standing behind the bar of their local. To everyone who has worked with us a great big thankyou - you have been amazing and each and every one of you has contributed to the warmth, character and colour of the pub.
We have had so many people help us over the years - often giving their time freely. The loyalty and friendship of all our customers, both locals and regulars has been a constant support and we can't thank you enough for that. We really have been so very very lucky.
A thank you also to our suppliers some of whom have been with us from the get go. Your patience understanding and helpfulness has been faultless.
Finally I would like to thank my family who have been just amazing - all of them. Most of them have also worked here either directly of behind the scenes. Every one has contributed over the years in some way but especially my mum and late father who supported me (us) without question.
The community is currently running an initiative to buy the Lion in order to preserve it both as a pub and also a community asset. It's recently been officially secured as an asset of community value so it's heading in the right direction.
Below is a link for anyone who wants to get involved or follow its developments.
In the meantime it just remains for us to say for the last time, good night and god bless.
Fiona, David, Andrea and all the Lion team.

We would like to thank everyone for all the lmessages of support and love we have recieved for Dad. It's been overwhelming and a great comfort, especially for Mum.

There will be a short private Cremation followed by a celebration of his life in the Sports Bar at Ashton Gate Stadium from 12.15 to which everyone is welcome.
