In January 1969 the founder of the above company moved to live in Horton from nearby Little Sodbury and at the same time started the company as a one man repairing agricultural machinery, which for approximately one year was based at Crowshall Barn Farm thanks to the help of Peter Lippiatt. During this time valuable assistance was given by Wendy and Ron Harris who lived only feet away in the farm

On this day, 50 years ago, the first Fendt tractors arrived into the UK.
Bill Bennett drove to the Fendt factory with a good friend Bill Cannon. They used one of Bill Cannon's lorries, an Atkinson, which had a Gardener 150hp engine and 6 speed gearbox.
Bill remembers the journey being quite tough due to a lot of snow and temperatures down to -19C. On the way they had to keep up a good speed so they could keep breaking through the snowdrifts which were up to 1m deep.
At Cologne the engine stopped due to the fuel waxing in the cold and wouldn't pass through the fuel filters so they had to remove the fuel filters.
Bill also recounts that the cab heater in the Atkinson only worked on the driver's side so when the passenger got too cold they would have to swap drivers!
They collected three Fendts on the first load, a Farmer 104, Farmer 106 and a Favorit 611
They arrived back from their adventure on the 7th December 1973 and the story of Fendt in the UK began.

It was with congratulations and thanks that we said Farewell to Tony Groves after 16 years as General Manager at Bill Bennett Engineering Limited.
Tony joined us on 14th August 2006 and has done a great job developing and steering the company. As one of many improvements, he introduced CNC machines into our manufacturing department which is now unrecognisable from 16 years ago.
Tony managed our customer whom we supply our uniglide pick-up hitch so as a memento of his time here we presented him with a limited edition Fendt Vario 818 scale model.
Thanks to Tony and we hope he'll call in when passing to check on our progress.
