We've just added Alchemy Matcha to our drinks menu for the summer!

Alchemy maho matcha elixir is made with shade grown premium green tea form Kyoto which increases the polyphenols and theanine, and this delivers an 'Alert Calm' to the consumer which studies have shown may reduce stress. It is packed with antioxidants, which is known to assist in boosting the metabolism, detoxifying, calming the mind and relaxing the body!

A blend of premium matcha and vanilla, ginger and cardamom, which broadens the flavour profile making the goodness of the matcha more delicious and therefore even more popular. Maho Matcha is delicious served hot or cold.

Suitable for vegetarians, vegans, gluten and dairy free.

He runs marathons all over the world and we love hearing about his travels whenever he passes through Ollie's for his cappuccino, no sprinkles 🏃‍♂️

Introduce yourself?

"I'm Gary Tomkinson, aged 67, retired & have lived in Bromsgrove for 36 years."

How did you get into marathon running?

"I was watching one of my sons run in the Paris marathon in 2012 & my other son said, 'do you fancy running a marathon next year.' That was it, I ran in Berlin in 2012."

What marathons have you competed in recently?

"Berlin in September '23, New York in November '23 & Tokyo in March '24."

Any advice for anyone looking to get into marathon running?

"Fine a partner or join a running club. Chatting helps the mules go by & if you can hold a conversation you know you're not over doing it."

What marathons are you competing in next?

"London in April '24. I got a ballot place after 10 years of trying."

Introduce yourself?

"Hey I'm Leah, I have worked at Ollie's as a Barista & Supervisor for just over a year."

How did you become a Barista at Ollie's?

"I've worked in hospitality for nearly 7 years, mainly in pub & restaurant settings. I wanted to try something different and learn new skills, so I applied for a trial shift at Ollie's."

"The standard of coffee is high at Ollie's, so he sent me on an advanced Barista course in Birmingham. I improved on my latte art and overall coffee knowledge, as well as unlocking the key to good milk."

What do you enjoy about working in the hospitality industry?

"I've always loved the Customer Service aspect of hospitality; communication is one of my greatest strengths. Getting to know your regulars and making them feel appreciated can be very rewarding."

Most enjoyable moments?

"The most enjoyable moments are whenever I've organised a big celebration for one of the regulars, such as weddings or birthdays! It's fast paced, but I have always enjoyed collaborating with the host to make their experience perfect."

Any advice on how to smash a trial shift?

"I would say, just be yourself, show some initiative and interest in the team. PS it's a good idea to read through the menu before your trial shift."

Why open a New York style pizzeria in Bromsgrove?

"We took a trip to New York, we visited New York pizza places. One thing we loved was the ethos behind them, the local pizza spot where all the staff knew your name and order."

"New York style pizza is the fun cousin of Italian pizza, it allows you to push the boundaries when it comes to toppings and techniques."

How do you become a pizza chef?

"When I wanted to work in a kitchen I had no experience, so I knocked on doors, asked for trail shifts and I got my foot in the door"

Any advice for aspiring pizza chefs?

"Don't be afraid to try things and put your own spin on what you do. Pizza is the food of the people."

Any final words?

"You're never too old to do something, I started making pizza at 36 years old and hope to be making it in Bromsgrove for many years to come".

Did you know that Ollie's Eatery-Bar is housed within a Georgian grade 2 listed building! We restored the building so the beautiful architecture and heritage of Bromsgrove can be shown off in a setting that allows the community to actively be a part of it.

Benjamin Sanders, the button manufacturer, owned this property originally and by the 1830s the house was owned by James Skidmore a local carpenter, followed by the Brown family who were plumbers and painters!

At the end of the 19th century, the house and shop were leased by John Brighton for 14 years at £45 a year in 1907. By 1910 his son Alfred was living in the house. Alfred took over the business from his father and with the wonderful help of his wife they managed to pay for it in about 4 years. For over 85 years this was Brighton's shoe shop. It was here that generations of Bromsgrove children were fitted with shoes ready for the new school year.
