What do hats have to do with the fight for home? 🎩🤔👒
Millinery students from Morley College London have embarked on a journey to design and craft unique hats that are not just fashion statements but symbols of activism. Scroll to read more about each unique piece and the designer’s inspiration. 👉
Each design reflects the wearer’s commitment to social justice and the students have incorporated elements that symbolise struggle, hope, resilience and the fight for a better future. The collection is made sustainably, crafted from repurposed clothes or dead stock fabric.
The hats will be on display until early next week at before being available to purchase, with funds directly going to Shelter and the fight for home. Come along to Coal Drops Yard this weekend and check out the exhibition!

Have you spotted our campaign across our shops yet?
Our Primrose manager says: I am so lucky to have social housing for myself and my family. It’s really life transforming, especially after living in temporary accommodation for many years prior.
I lived in a council house for part of my childhood and although it didn’t resonate so much then, now that I am the one paying the rent and with private renting being unaffordable,I realise how precious it is. I bless it every day!

Last week we hosted the fabulous .co for an upcycling popup at as part of London Repair Week. Swipe for some of the before and after looks. 👉
The talented designers worked with these happy customers to create brand new garments from no-longer loved pieces. 🧵 ✂️
Being creative with re-styling, mending and upcycling is one of the most impactful ways we can lessen our fashion footprint by reducing the need for new. And as you can see, sustainable can be super stylish too! 💃
The popup has definitely inspired us to look at our wardrobes in a different way. If you’d like to try a bit of upcycling too, check out an appointment with Newless to breathe new life into an old favourite. Or why not pick out a preloved treasure from Shelter shops to make your own? ♻️
Originally shown during London Craft week at , we're delighted to say some of the pieces from our Shoes Have Names and Wherever I Lay My Hat exhibitions are now at the .
A diverse range of designers worked with people who have faced homelessness to share their stories through individually crafted shoes and hats.
Currently over 309,000 people in England are homeless. Around half of them (140,000) are children. That's more people homeless than ever before. Through these pieces, we believe fashion can have a positive impact, helping highlight our unjust housing system. This is Fashion For Social Change.
Many thanks to for helping bring this together and to for showcasing these pieces.
