Talk about taking your work home with you. I filmed Rex's rescue for a TV show a few years ago, and here he is; first on the day of rescue having his almost dreadlocked fur cut for the first ever time by an RSPCA vet, and then with young William after his latest hair cut. And yes, William needs a trim next!

When I'm looking through a camera viewfinder I aim to focus on just doing a great job. But sometimes things affect you, and they can take you by surprise.

Filming is a unique opportunity, I'm often aiming to catch real life all the time and the camera is just a coincidence. But I am grateful for these lovely life moments it allows me to be a part of.

Video Cameras: Here are my first and most recent ones. The top one is a Sony Hi8 camera that I bought back in 1991 after a summer of working every hour I could at McDonald’s to save up for the £1,200 price. At 17, I made maximum use of this camera, and it was a huge help with my college and degree work.

The one below is a Lego camera I just received for my 50th birthday. It’s non-functional, of course, as is my Sony camera, which I still have today. I just can’t bring myself to throw it in the electronic recycling container at the tip!

Lego played a big part in my early interest in television and video, and I now see it sparking my little boy's imagination when it comes to cars.

Do you recycle your coffee pods? If you put them in the plastics / metal recycling bin, then whilst you have the best intentions they will just end up in landfill and your waste recycling efforts really have been wasted.

Podback will send you for free some recycling bags, which you then post for free and the metal or plastic coffee pods and food waste inside them then all gets recycled. I keep my Podback bag hung on a door near the kitchen.

And what happens to the waste coffee? Well, from me filming in a farmers field following after a tractor, I can confirm coffee granules can be converted into a natural alternative to fertiliser.

What parts of your childhood influenced your career?

For me it was watching TV of course, and whilst reliving my youth, I've been busy making my own 'Top of the Pops' neon style sign. TOTP was one of the TV shows that really inspired me to want to work in television. The show was fun, colourful, and the studio looked an exciting place to be.

Making this has also been a nice break from video editing, which although is an enjoyable creative process, being a perfectionist you can get a little bit too wrapped up in your work.

So once my sign is finished, it will be proudly displayed on the living room wall where you'll find me then saying 'It's Thursday, it's 7pm, it's time for 'Top of the Pops!'.

Homes Under the Hammer is one of the big successes of the BBC1 Daytime schedule and is shown all around the world. I'm proud to say I film some of the places featured, and being naturally nosey I really love seeing the inside of properties that have just sold at auction.

It seems a straight forward show to film but as the programme has been on air for 21 years, in that time they have really refined what processes work and what don't- not just the actual filming, but all of the smaller details such as how footage is logged.

The advantage for my clients is I never stop learning these new tips and techniques, and I take them straight through the doors of my clients as I arrive carrying my camera (the same camera I also use on Homes Under the Hammer).

I aim for all my work (wether that be daytime BBC TV, or a website film for my client), to be a consistent quality and professionalism on my part.
