Happy Bank Holiday everyone,

Here’s a project completed in Trawden last week, which we turned around after a short notice booking. The client contacted me to see if I could refresh two bedrooms before she relocated to Trawden from Wiltshire .

So, Bethanee and I worked on this job after hours over a two week period. We completed on Wednesday, ready for the client who moved in on Friday.

Everything was going white. The walls were painted using Crown Clean Extreme Brilliant White Durable Matt Emulsion. The woodwork was sanded, caulked, primed using Zinsser bullseye 123 Plus, then given two coats of Criwn Fastflow Beilluant White Satin paint.

The doors had to be treated with Zinsser Bin to stain block wood knots, followed by a coat of Bullseye 123 Plus, and a final cost of the white satin.

Both rooms now look really clean, fresh and light.

Another happy client who was also relieved we could complete in due h a short space of time. 😊👍

Good morning everyone,

It’s full steam ahead as usual at Reedley Décor. We have been working days and evenings this week, hence the lack of posts.

I promised last week I would post the internal work on the project we completed on the Grade Ii listed property, so here are some photos.

You will notice I said “we”, as I have recently taken on a fantastic newly qualified decorator called Bethanee. So, a very big welcome to Bethanee Sharrock.

We have a number of projects in the oven so to speak including a kitchen respray, two bedrooms in Trawden, an insurance job repairing a ceiling and two commercial jobs. More about them very soon.

In the meantime, here are the photos of the beautiful Barnoldswick house 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

Here’s another garage door brought back from looking tired, with layer upon layer of old paint, to looking brand new.

Due to years and years of conventional oil based paint being applied, I had to take the angle grinder to certain parts of the garage door, taking back to bare metal. The whole door was then sanded thoroughly, followed by being cleaned with panel wipe removing any grime and dust.

Once the surface was fully prepped and cleaned, I masked up the whole area.

The client wanted as close a match to Rosewood as possible, to tie in the garage door with the UPVC windows and door.

I used Selemix Polyurethane 2K paint mixed to RAL 8017. One dust coat and three finish coats to ensure a really good coverage.

It will now last a very long time indeed and looks like new.

Another very happy client and a pleasure providing the service for her. 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

We have just completed a project for returning client in Barnoldseick. It’s a Grade II listed building and a large proportion of the interior work has already been done.

It was the turn of the exterior this time, along with a computer room and a couple of small corridors.

The original wooden window frames at the front of the property had fallen into disrepair. There was a lot of remedial work completed, including taking out perished putty and replacing it, cutting out rotten wood, treating it and rebuilding using 2 pack filler. All the woodwork was sanded down and the single glazing caulked to create a water tight seal.

Once all of the repair work was completed, we applied two coats of Crown Fastflow White Undercoat. The white woodwork was then given two topcoat using Zinsser Allcoat Brilliant White Satinwood paint. The three exterior doors were sanded, caulked, undercoated using Crown Fastflow Charcoal Grey Undercoat and then two topcoats using Zinsser Allcoat Satinwood Black paint.

The dressed stonework was scraped/sanded and filled using Toukret Murex Madonry Repair Filler. We then gave the masonry two coats using Sandtex Trade Masonry paint, mixed to Farrow and Ball “School House White”.

The small outside shed was given a refresh using the paint provided, along with the front door using Farrow and Ball exterior eggshell.

The interior work was completed, but I will post the photos as a separate job.

The exterior has gone through a complete transformation and is now able to withstand the harshest of winters due to the remedial work and the 15 year guarantee that comes with the paint.

I will be returning again at a later date to continue the decorating work inside the property.

It was so rewarding to attend to the exterior woodwork 😊👍

Good afternoon everyone,

It’s been really hectic for the last two weeks with a couple of projects still in the process of being completed. There is other news, involving expanding the business, which I will share shortly.

In the meantime, here is an exterior I completed the other week and returned to today, to change the colour of the roof tiles. The client got back in touch, once I had completed the job to ask if I would paint the roof tiles again in another colour. I happily agreed and got on with the task this morning. To be fair, they do look a lot better in black, compared to the previous choice of colour.

The roof tiles were painted using Rustilin Blavk Roof Tile paint.

The colour scheme for the guttering, corbel stones, downpipes and window sills was “Agate Grey” using Dulux Weathershield Gloss to match the UPVC. The jambs and lintels were painted using Dulux Weathershield Gloss paint.

All of the Agate Grey detailing had to be undercoated first, with an oil based undercoat.

I also removed the redundant satellite dish from the front of the house, which was a bit of an eye sore.

The property is absolutely stunning now and looks really stylish. A very happy client who I hope to work for again in the future. 😊👍

Hi everyone,

Having completed the plaster restoration job last week for a lovely couple, they asked me to spray the gable end of the house exterior. It had been behind scaffolding for a while due to the water ingress damage, which affected the bedroom ceiling I worked on.

Now the roof was fixed, scaffolding down, it needed a refresh.

I completed the job late into Thursday evening, finishing around 9.30pm. So, I don’t have the complete set of photos I normally have. I had to sheet up all the windows and mask up the dressed stone before spraying.

It was a lovely view of Pendle Hill up there, with my ladders fully extended to 40 feet.

I sprayed about 15L litres of Leyland Trugard (Magnolia) masonry paint on the pebble dash.

It now looks really fresh and clean again. 😊👍

Good afternoon everyone,

It’s been a very challenging week focussing on a huge project, trying to complete on budget.

A returning client asked me to redecorate their hall, stairs and landing on three floors of the property. It took 6 days of hard work to turn it around.

The ceilings were painted using Leyland Superleytex Brilliant White Matt Emulsion. Walls were painted using Crown Clean Extreme Durable Matt Emulsion in two different colours. Woodwork was sanded, caulked, primed using Zinsser Bullseye 123 Plus Adhesion Primer, then given 3 topcoats of Crown Fastflow Brilliant White Satinwood paint.

The sheer volume of woodwork was a significant aspect of this project.

The hallway storage cupboard was prepped and given 2 coats of Zinsser Allcoat.

Handrails were sanded using 180 grit sandpaper and treated with Osmo Oil.

Finally I sanded the front door and frame on both sides, stained using Colron Light Oak Wood Dye, then applied 2 coats of Sadolin PV67 Satinwood 2 Pack Lacquer.

It was a huge undertaking, but I managed to complete within the timeframe I anticipated.

The results are stunning 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

A returning client asked me if I could build him a back garden gate, as the previous one had rotted and fallen apart. Being an old property the gate posts were stone with cast iron gate pins set in the stonework with hinges to match.

So, I had to build the gate using the old iron mongary. This brought its own challenges, but I managed to sort it out.

The back garden gate just needs a latch fitting now but will last a long time, as I used tanalised timber.

I’ll be returning later in the year to refurb a guest bedroom. 😊👍

Good afternoon everyone,

The projects keep coming at a pace, so it’s timely that my apprentice has started working with me. I’ve hit a few jobs to post since shutdown in June.

Here’s a project I’ve loved going in Burnley recently. The client wanted me to complete a wide range of jobs:

Mist coating a reception room
Decorating the reception room after mist coating
Painting the second reception room ceiling
Sealing fresh plaster in the hallway and wallpapering
Decorating the hall, stairs and landing once the walls were sealed/wallpapered
Repairing and spraying the composite from door
Painting exterior front elevation of the house, including front wall and gate.

It took nearly two weeks to complete everything. I’m not going to list all the materials that were needed, as I’m sure you’ll appreciate it’s a long list,

Anyway, one very happy client and a complete transformation of her property after a long wait to get it completed.

The variety of skills needed to complete everything separates a professional from the rest. A thoroughly enjoyable creative journey, 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

So my first week back after a month away pursuing other interests, has been completed.

I’m currently working on a project involving a variety of different tasks, but more about that next week.

In the meantime, here is a whole house I completed recently for returning clients. Having done work for them a few years back, it was time for a refresh.

They asked me to complete the work whilst they were on holiday, so there was no time to waste.

All the ceilings were masked and sprayed to a finish using Crown Covertex Brilliant White Matt Emulsion paint. All of the walls were brushed and rolled using Valspar Durable Matt paint mixed to “Rustic Olive”.

All of the woodwork was lightly sanded using 180 grit sanding pads on my Festool sanders to create a keyed surface. I then applied a coat of Crown Fastflow Brilliant White Satinwood paint.

It took a massive 86 working hours, 80 litres of Valspar paint, 30 litres of Crown Covertex and 10 litres of Crown Clean Extreme Brilliant White Durable Matt Emulsion paint for the kitchen.

Naturally, there was a lot of sheeting/masking up and subsequent de-masking. The final touch was giving the whole place a clean and vacuum, ready gir the clients to return to a completely redecorated house.

The only thing I have left to do is sand the newel posts and handrails on the staircase before applying 2 pack PV67 Gloss Lacquer, which I will be going on Tuesday.

A huge effort but worth it for the clients’ reactions who love it 😊👍

Good afternoon everyone,

Here’s a couple of kitchen worktops jobs I’ve recently completed.

Straight forward but a massive difference 😊👍

Photos from Reedley Décor's post 28/06/2024

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while since I last posted, not because I haven’t been busy, just because I’ve been involved with exam board work.

Here is a spraying project I completed a few weeks ago. The returning client asked me to spray a dresser and two dining chairs for her. All the pieces of furniture were given a good sand, before being sprayed with Zinsser Bullseye 123 Plus Adhesion Primer.

The dresser was sprayed with two coats of Bedec MSP mixed to Farrow and Ball “Plummett”. The top was sanded, stained using Colron Wood Stain “Medium Oak” and given two coats of Sadolin PV67 Satin 2pack lacquer.

The dining chairs were given two coats of Crown Fastflow Brillliant White Eggshell.

Everything was demasked ready for returning to being placed in the recently decorated kitchen.

Another happy client 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

So, I’m now in the month of June when I swap hats from running my business to doing exam work for GCSE Art and Design.

Therefore, there won’t be as many posts this month. However, here is an exterior I completed last week. The client asked me to point underneath the slates on her kitchen extension.

There were large areas needing a thorough series down to remove loose paint and treat with Sandtex Stabilising Solution. Then it was onto spraying the masonry with Sandtex “Plymouth Grey” masonry paint. It took 20 litres to complete the back of the property and the front. The sills were scraped down and undercoated before being given two coats of exterior satinwood finish black paint.

I will be returning soon to finish some smaller bits including the back gate and installing some shelving on the walls at the rear of the property.

A total transformation and a very happy client. 😊👍

Good afternoon everyone,

Last Bank Holiday weekend I ended up helping out a client resolve a ceiling problem he had been left with, by some builders who had constructed an extension for him.

The ceiling was left with half of the original coving on and half without on his landing. He asked me if I could resolve the problem.

Having measured the coving, it was 132 mm height, which you can’t get hold of due to the original coving being created by hand. This meant it had to come off and be replaced by 127mm coving.

I set out on Sunday, chiselling all the old coving off, filling two large rubble bags. There was a lot of debris and dust to clean up afterwards, but it’s all part of the service. Once I had removed the old coving, I installed the new 127mm light weight coving, fine filled the walls due to the difference in size compared to the original, caulked and filled where needed.

I returned on the Bank Holiday Monday to strip off the old anaglypta paper on the ceiling and structural beam across the landing. Thankfully, I managed to get an exact match with the new paper. I then papered the ceiling and beam. The final touches were caulking around the coving to seal the edges of the ceiling paper.

It took some ladders and a balancing act, but worth the effort, as the client now has a good as new ceiling ready for painting.

It’s not just about the glamorous parts of decorating, it’s as much about preparation/refurbishment and restoration. On this occasion the client had waited a long time to find someone capable and willing to do the work. He was left very happy indeed 😊👍👍

Good afternoon everyone,

Last Bank Holiday weekend I ended up working the Sunday and Monday to help out a client who is planning for a family wedding. After an extension build, he was left with a ceiling that had half of the original coving on and half without.

So, on the Sunday I spent my time chiselling off the old original coving, which was solid plaster, filling two rubble bags. I then fine filled around the walls, as the new coving was 127mm instead of 132mm height.

I installed the new coving and filled/caulked where needed.

I returned on Bank Holiday Monday, to strip the old anaglypta paper off the ceiling and the structural beam across the landing. I managed to get an exact match, so I then proceeded to repaper the ceiling and beam with the new anaglypta paper. It did involve using ladders and a bit of a balancing act, but all went really well, with no evidence of seams.

It was a challenge, but worth the effort as the client now has a landing ceiling ready for painting and the imminent family wedding.

It’s not just about the glamorous side of decorating, it’s just as much about the preparation/refurbishment/restoration 😊👍

Spraying

Photos from Reedley Décor's post 28/05/2024

Good evening everyone,

Here’s a spraying job I completed on Saturday in Grindleton. The clients got in touch to see if I could bring their tired and faded garage door back to life. I eagerly accepted the challenge, as I had every confidence I could bring it back to new using a 2K paint system.

On arrival, I set to work sanding the garage door and cladding above it, using my Festool sander with a 180 grit sanding disk and dust extractor. This was to ensure a good key was created. The area was then masked up meticulously to protect it from any overspray.

Once the area was protected, the garage door and cladding was sprayed with panel wipe and cleaned down to remove any evidence of dust or dirt. The final stage before spraying was to wipe all areas down with tack cloths to be sure of a dust free surface.

I used Selemix Direct 30% sheen with accelerator and thinners to create the perfect viscosity fur the paint. My recently purchased Gentilin compressor was set up along with my gravity fed gun and away I went spraying.

I grip coat was sprayed first to the surfaces. Once this had dried enough, I proceeded to spray two finish coats to complete the process. The colour chosen by the clients is Dulux “Roasted Coffee”, to match the “Jacobian Walnut” woodwork.

The garage door and cladding now looks brand new and it was a fraction of the cost of replacing it. The clients were really impressed, leaving me a wonderful Google review for my website.

If your front door/windows or garage door needs a new lease of life, get in touch 😊👍

Happy Sunday everyone,

Here’s another project completed last week. The clients asked me to freshen up their lounge and dining room. They decided the wallpaper was staying, so the job involved the ceilings, remaining walls and woodwork.

The ceilings were given two coats of Crown Covertex Brilliant White Matt Emulsion. The walls were given two coats of Crown Clean Extreme Durable Matt Emulsion “Duck Egg Blue”. The walls can now be washed down to keep them looking as good as new. The woodwork was sanded and primed using Zinsser Bullseye 123 Plus Adhesion Primer before a topcoat of Crown Fastflow Brilliant White Gloss paint.

The crucial element to this project was the need for a lot of protective sheeting and taking extra care when painting next to the wallpapered walls. Considering I don’t use masking tape and it’s all done by hand, that’s not an easy thing to do. All the cutting in on the walls and woodwork is totally freehand.

Another really happy client 😊👍

Good morning followers, friends and family,

Another lovely Bank Holiday weekend, but Reedley Décor continues to work and strive for perfection, with the aim of transforming client’s homes.

Here is a wallpapering project I completed last week in Burnley. The client asked me to paint her ceiling and wallpaper the walls in her lounge. Whenever I complete a wallpapering job, I always want to achieve a seamless finish. I hope you can see there are no seams in view and even the splicing around the window returns/trimming around architraves is pretty much perfect.

A straight forward job in many respects, if you know what you are doing.

Another very happy customer, which is the biggest motivation for me, as I love providing the WOW factor. 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

I hope you all have had a lovely restful Sunday.

I completed a hall, stairs and landing in Colne last week. The clients asked me to freshen up the space. The first task was to give all of the woodwork a good sanding and cut back the old carpet. I also sanded the walls to achieve a decent finish once painted

The woodwork was primed using Zinsser Bullseye 123 Plus and then two topcoats of Crown Brilliant White Eggshell. The ceilings were sprayed to a finish using Crown Covertex Brilliant White Matt Emulsion. The walls were given two coats of Crown Clean Extreme Durable Matt Emulsion, mixed to Dulux “Soft Stone”.

It took 5 days of solid hard work, but the transformation was worth all the effort. The clients returned from their holiday to it all having been completed. They were over the moon with the finish and quality of the workmanship, leaving a review for my website.

I hope you like it too! 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

PLEASE SHARE, SHARE, SHARE 😃

Another huge project completed this week in Cliveger.

The client got in touch to ask me to deal with a badly water damaged bedroom. The gable end wall had been taken back to brick due to a significant water ingress.

The first stage involved carefully removing the picture rails, sealing the brickwork, dry boarding the wall to cover up an old storage hatch and door box, taping and jointing, before skimming to a finish. It was left for a couple of days to dry out, then I sealed the fresh plaster with Zinsser Gardz, installed new 7 inch lamb”s tongue skirting and reinstated the picture rail.

The remaining wallpaper was stripped and the walls were lined above and below the picture rails using 2000 grade lining paper. The woodwork was sanded extensively, caulked with HB42 and filled using Toupret Woodfiller. Once cured, it was primed with two coats of Zinsser Bullseye 123 Plus.

I used both Polyfilla and Red Devil Fine Filler to deal with damaged plaster, particularly behind the radiator below the sill. The walls were painted with Crown Vinyl Matt Emulsion, choosing a very soft pink with a hint of blue to complement the wallpaper. The feature wall was walls red with beautiful floral design.

The radiator was drained and removed to wallpaper behind. It also was primed and painted to a finish, once reinstalled after papering.

Finally, the woodwork was given a topcoat of Crown Fastflow Brilliant White Satinwood. I also installed a new light fitting to complete the transformation. I really enjoyed completing this project, not without its challenges, but well worth the effort. The client was also over the moon to see the room transformed 😊👍

Good afternoon everyone,

Having worked on two bedrooms, one with an en suite in Clitheroe, the project is now ready for the fitted wardrobes installation and new carpets.

I completed the work over a week ago, but I also forgot to take photos of the second en suite bedroom finished. Do, I’ll have to do an update when a return to the property to complete the exterior of the house.

In the meantime, here’s the photos I have. Bedroom one was Skimming Stone and bedroom two with en suite was Old White. All of the work completed was done using Fsrtiw and Ball paints.

There was a little bit of joinery work to go in the bathroom after the bathroom fitted had finished, involving a bit of skirting and sealing the edges around the flooring with anti mould silicone.

Overall a fantastic project up complete, offering a variety of things to do including plastering.

I’m looking forward to updating this one in the near future 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

Here’s another piece of furniture I have revived. I purchased the floor standing mirror from Facebook Marketplace. It was is good condition and was ideal for doing some copper leaf gilding. It took about 5 hours or so to complete. It now a statement piece for any bedroom 😊👍

It’s always nice when clients send you some photos of the room you have decorated, back to normal and being used. This client in Brierfield sent me a few photos of the paintwork fully cured and accessories back in place. 😊👍

Happy Bank Holiday Sunday everyone,

Please share if you can 😊😊😊

Well there is a first time for everything and this project was the first time I have sprayed a roof.

The client, who lives in Aughton in Ormskirk has had a major redevelopment of his property. Whilst the detached house had scaffolding up around the whole property, I got to work spraying the roof tiles.

There was 90 square metres of concrete tiles to do. The most time consuming part was power washing all of the moss and grime from the roof. This in itself was a massive job, amounting to 80 kilos being power washed off and swept up.

The roof tiles were then treated with 12 litres of Kingfisher Bio-Wash to protect the tiles with the specially formulated anti fungal coating.

The final stage was using my TriTech T5 Airless Sprayer to apply 70 litres of Kingfisher Black Anthracite Roof Tile Paint.

The roof is now totally transformed and in keeping with the rest of the significant modernisation that has taken place.

Another very happy client and a project that proves anything is possible. 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

I have several jobs to post this weekend, but I thought I would post this little beauty of a project, just to highlight that I restore furniture too.

This coffee table was listed on Facebook Marketplace and I immediately could see the potential. It was tired looking, well used with plenty of wear and tear.

I spent quite a bit of time sanding this piece, which is really heavy and manufactured with good quality wood.

Once I had achieved a decent key on the carcass, I took to painting it with Bedec MSP mixed to Farrow and Ball “Old White”.

The top was sanded right back to bare wood using my Festool sander and dust extractor. I applied a Colron Medium Oak Woodstain. Once that had been absorbed after 3 applications, I proceeded to apply Sadolin PV67 Satin 2 Pack Lacquer. This was applied using a fine fibre roller. I repeated this process four times to build up a good amount of coverage to ensure a hardwearing surface was achieved. It is now pretty much heat resistant.

It just takes a little bit of vision, TLC and elbow grease to transform tired old furniture into beautiful pieces again 😊👍

Good evening everyone,

After working in Liverpool on a major job last week, which I will post this weekend, I completed a kitchen redecoration in Brierfield.

The client asked me to paint the walls of her kitchen, in a new build property. The chosen colour was Farrow and Ball “ Pale Powder”.

I applied two coats of the Farrow and Ball Modern Emulsion to freshen up the kitchen by adding a subtle hint of colour. The walls are now washable by using the modern emulsion, which is always handy in areas, such as a kitchen.

The client was really pleased and I hope I get to complete more work in the future for her 😊👍

Photos from Reedley Décor's post 28/04/2024

Good afternoon everyone,

Here’s my latest project, which is still ongoing in Clitheroe. The clients have asked me to decorate two bedrooms, one of which, has an en suite. The en suite is currently being fitted out, so here is the first bedroom completed and ready first the new fitted wardrobes and new carpet.

The original coving needed to be removed in order for the new fitted wardrobes to be installed. I had to carefully remove the plaster coving, to ensure what was staying wasn’t damaged. It did pull away the plaster on the walls and ceiling back to brick, laths. However, I applied PVA to the affected area, applied a bonding plaster and then skimming plaster to finish off.

The ceiling was painted using Farrow and Ball Modern Emulsion “All White”. The walls were painted using Fartiw and Ball Modern Emulsion “Skimming Stone”.

The woodwork was sanded using my Festool sanding system and given a coat of Zinsser Bullseye 123 Plus Adhesion Primer. I then applied two coats of Farrow and Ball Estate Eggshell “All White”.

I have since moved onto the second bedroom, which is complete, but I’ll post an update once I have completed the en suite too. 😊👍
