*Miner Bird Monologues is a new play by Lisa Blower, the culmination of a New Vic Borderlines research project in partnership with Institute for Social Inclusion
Image description: We are looking at a parade of people walking and dancing down Piccadilly in Stoke-on-Trent City Centre. Most of the parade members in the background are obscured by those in front who are wearing yellow headbands with large feathers, and waving huge wings made from turquoise and blue fabric with frilled edges. Leading the parade is a lady in full swing, her long green skirt with pink frilled edging held out to the sides and twirling energetically. She’s wearing a shawl and knotted headdress in bright, checked fabric, her braids flying out to the sides. Despite the obvious grey, wet conditions, the whole scene is vibrant and full of movement.

We're delighted to announce our latest temporary exhibition. Peter Lymer was a local engineer who had a lifelong passion for photography. He had a natural eye for a great photograph and enjoyed capturing the people and places around him. He converted the coalhouse at the back of his house in Fenton into a dark room and taught himself the skills to enhance and develop his images into works of art.
Peter's black and white images capture the essence of The Potteries as it was just a generation ago but yet in many ways a different world. Most of the photographs have never been shown in public before and this is a fantastic opportunity to view a fascinating unseen archive of life in The Potteries.
Until Saturday 31 August, admission free.
