“Blonder and shorter…”
Another day, another blonde at the blonde hair studio 🤭 Other colours are available 😉

Saw this photo of Anne Hathaway and immediately thought ‘98 Monica Geller… anyone else ?
Some of my saved visuals, nineties grown out crops meet french girl bobs . & darker hair seems to be having its moment again 🤎🖤🤎

Most of my gorjy clients have now been in to the studio since I moved over to evo, hue-verse colour.

I wanted to share a bit about my decision to swap out colour brands over here as its been such a happy and exciting time for me in the studio ✌️

Hue-verse is the brand new colour line from the Aussie brand Evo 🐨
Hue-verse is…
1 - cruelty-free (as you would hopefully expect me to choose at TGHS)
2 - ammonia, ppd and resorcinol free (as you would also expect!)
3 - produced and manufactured honestly, respecting people and the planet in the process 🌍🌱💚
4 - totally gorgeous! Colour and hair is more vibrant, shiner, longer lasting, softer, smoother, healthier and happier! I haven’t been this excited about a product in a while! 🤩
It’s a premium product choice that I’ve made for my lovely clients as I love what I do and I want you to LOVE your hair.
It’s made my job so much fun lately as the shades are just BEAUTIFUL, so modern and fresh.
Hair feels amazing after as the colour is formulated with a blend of natural ingredients to preserve the integrity of the hair and scalp. It also offers me the chance to be more creative with your colour and tailor results for you, which is pretty much what I’m about.

If you haven’t been in to the studio for an appointment in the last 8 weeks you will need a patch test before you’re next appointment, just drop me a line to get booked in.

Shiny happy hair makes for shiny, happy people after all.

/// What does GREEN hair mean to me? ///

Green hair means lots of things to me 🌱

First up though is K I N D 💚

My image of beautiful is always kind.
Green hair means beautiful hair that is cruelty-free.
Beautiful doesn’t add up to the suffering of animals, people or places.

The focus of this post is on animals.

A brand that is truly cruelty free does not perform animal testing on products or ingredients at any point during the making of their product.
They ensure that their suppliers and other third parties also do not perform animal testing on their behalf.
The brand can also NOT trade in China or other places whereby they are required to test their product on animals by law.

Believe me when I say choosing cruelty free does not mean a compromise on products that you love, and both deliver on performance by everyyy day here at .

Sharing an image, I found over – a trusted crueltyfree resource.
Chose this little guy for my post as my little muse has fallen in love with “Nuk” (Nutkin Squirell for all you Peter Rabbit fans out there).
Hoping for a future for her where “Nuk” and the rest of the cast are no longer subject to animal testing cus in 2021, it’s just not necessary 😪

I switched all my make up bag & other products over a while back.
It took some time but I have found a cruelty free product swap for all my old favourites that I love as much or more.

Cruelty free brands I love -

Comment with your favourite cruelty free hair and beauty brands - I 💚 a new product recommendation 🙌🏻

/// a place to grow… pt 2 ///

On the subject of growth… training/learning/growing is kind of my thing… some people might mistake my thing for perfectionism 😳
I really do live to learn and love honing my craft
& well I’m working on the perfectionism 😉😝

Photos of recent freehand balayage training results.

The skill is in not just in the blend for a natural grow out.
Its also in the placement of the colour for a truly individual result.
I have fallen in love with painting hair freehand as the beauty of it is in my clients ... in the natural texture, growth and base of their hair.
The results are so unique, just the way I like things, definitely not a one size fits all technique, with endless adaptations of balayage to give movement, add dimension, brighten and lighten.

PSA - Gone are the days of stripy highlights folks.

Drop me a dm/ WhatsApp/ or call me at TGHS to book a complimentary colour consultation to learn more 🌱

/// Lisa ///

Sometimes you gotta remind yourself to just KISS and
k e e p   i t   s u p e r   s i m p l e!

Classic foiled highlights, lots of super fine hbleach slices to lighten up that 9 month lockdown regrowth 😱

The plan is to covert Lisa to a full head bleach over the next few months, she’s the perfect level 7/8 fine haired baby base for that clean white scandi bleached result with her bright blue eyes she definitely belongs in the full head bleach club!

However…
Short term, Lisa’s hair is a little weak from hair extension wear and needs time to thicken and strengthen.
Full head bleach is the most demanding colour service maintenance wise and to maintain and protect the integrity of Lisa’s hair (which she’s been growing hence the extension wearing) I’m not prepared to convert her to a full head bleach as the risk of breakage from inevitable overlap when converting over initially from highlights to scalp bleach is just too high.

Sooooo, the plan is lots of regular foiling appts until the end of the year when her lockdown regrowth has been replaced by so many foiled highlights that a full head bleach is a less risky transition and I can promise her a healthy, strong scandi blonde from one appt to the next for the long haul 🙌🏻👏🏻👍🏻

Until then I’m thinking this bright and creamy clean foiled blonde is a pretty dreamy compromise! 🍦💭

Moral of the story ... if at first your hairdresser says no, it’s cus they care about your future ✨✨✨

/// Diamonds are forever but ruby red hair might be for a week (if you don’t read on 😉) ///

Gemma’s back on the grid with her fresh, glossy, vibrant, locks lighting up the studio and turning heads! ♥️

Here’s the thing though…

Insta vs reality - this ruby requires upkeep ...

🍓Sulphate free shampoo and conditioner are ESSENTIAL. If this red head meets sulphates, Gemma can 💋 goodbye to her Dorothy slippers and say hello to candy-floss pink.
💕Pink fade can be cute too if you’re expecting it.
🎨 If not red pigmented treatments from both or once a week will maintain vibrancy
🍒 Cooler and less frequent hair washing
🍎 Less heated styling
🍉 And a gorj sun hat will all help to protect Gemma’s ruby red crowning glory!

/// HBleach ///

Remember Shelley and Julie from our previous posts?
HBleach got them there 🎨👏🏻

HBleach
• an ammonia free bleaching cream butter
• with Kukui butter, biodynamic lavender oil, ethical date and organic perilla oil
• containing fatty amino acids (buttery!) for nourished, shiny, lightening action and calming, soothing oils to restore, hydrate, and protect

Not all bleaching products are made equally.
Bleaching does not have result in dry, damaged hair. With HBleach, soft, shiny, happily bleached hair is achievable 😊🌱

/// Julie //

No before photo for you, I’m afraid (before photos are not my strong point) 🙄👎🏻 but here’s after round 1 of this colour story…

Julie and I met for a consultation a few weeks back and talked about taking her D A R K home coloured one length tresses on a journey towards something a little softer in regrowth and tone. We agreed on muted golden lengths around the face to flatter her fair skin but as Julie still wanted to identify as a brunette 🙌🏻 the brief was to create that elusive bronde balance throughout, working right up to the root with lightener to push for another week or two between regular root applications…
w a t c h this space!

We used Hrestore for added protection throughout the HBleach lightening process and HMilk to moisturise and seal the hair after.

P.S Julie also promised to follow up with sulfate free aftercare to protect her colour 😉 @ The Green

/// What does it mean to live slowly? ///

“It is a cultural revolution against the notion that faster is always better. The Slow philosophy is not about doing everything at a snail’s pace. It’s about seeking to do everything at the right speed. Savouring the hours and minutes rather than just counting them. Doing everything as well as possible, instead of as fast as possible. It’s about quality over quantity in everything from work to food to parenting.” - Carl Honore, In Praise Of Slow.

At TGHS, appointments are one on one and my working style is about your hair alone for the duration of you appointment. I worked like this prior to covid because simply, I like it this way. Attention to detail is my thing and working like this allows me to focus on the process of colouring your hair and for your colour to evolve with each appointment as my time is effectively just “your time”.

I haven’t actually found living slowly in lockdown all that difficult, it’s been unsettling at times because it feels so at odds with our usual cultural pressures but my parents taught me way back how much sweetness there is to be found in savouring ife’s smallest moments which are so easy to miss rushing from one perceived pressure to the next, so I’m looking forward to returning to work and I am so ready to connect with clients and create hair stories but I’m committed to continuing with that “just right” sweet spot pace of living.

There will be no rushing clients here.

In other news, my smallest muse, said “Bear” yesterday arvo...does life get any sweeter ?

03/12/2020

/// My Muse ///

So here’s the thing, sustainable living goes beyond the product choices on the shelves and reducing and recycling my footprint these days.
My very own Eden Project is my biggest lesson in sustainable living to date.

We are all individually a limited resource, how we choose to spend the 24hrs of our days and put our time and energy into service is up to us but ultimately there will only ever be 24hrs in a day for you to enjoy.

My muse, my motivation and my inspiration hasn’t had the easiest of starts and recently she’s taught me that I had the choice of listening patiently to her discomfort and accepting that she needed me to prioritise my own limited time and energy into finding a way through the now or punishing both of us, whilst trying to meet the demands of launching a small biz with a very unhappy baby, in the midst of a pandemic.
Living in the here and now instead of the future and giving the demands in my head some space has lead to finding some answers.
The Green Hair Studio was established when I fell pregnant as a space for me to work, enjoy and practice my passion for fashion, art, colour and hair and grow my understanding of sustainability for the future of our planet and my baby.
It’s been a slow starter with set backs and limited resources to here but my understanding of slowing down and listening to learn and grow has been more rewarding than I could have ever imagined so far. Self-employment doesn’t have to be an endless to do list if you live in the here and now.
So whilst I’m sorry its been very quiet over here for a while, life’s a balance and we work to live and this limited resource had to press pause for a while to focus on the reason.

Hopefully my little allergy baby and her tummy woes will turn the corner now as I cannot wait to get back behind the chair 💚
I’ve missed hair, fashion and art so much it’s hurt some days but I’ve definitely been living life in colour.

Ps. at this rate, I’ll share my first reel in 2040 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

/// Julie-Ann ///

Playful rosey copper-beech to reflect through Julie-Ann’s brunette base and bring out her classic Celtic complexion🌹

Colour is fun way to freshen up a haircut as it transitions thorough new lengths when you’re growing your hair.
With considered colour placement, the “growing out” phase of a haircut can be less painful as colour can change the attention of the shape.

Tonal balayage has given dimension and movement to Julie-Ann’s haircut to avoid it from feeling “heavy” whilst she grows it.

/// consultation ///

I have 10+ years of experience in creative colouring services and value honesty in what will and won't work for you and your hair in regards to suitability and your desired result.

A colour consultation is where this begins.

A consultation is an opportunity for me to discuss with you, your personality and style.
Suitability is everything. Your natural colouring, your personal style, your lifestyle and your mood all should be reflected in your hair.

Colouring really is a work of art to me and I firmly believe in quality over quantity, hence all appointments are one on one single booked appointments and include a post colour treatment and finish.

My clients become my friends, however, I pride myself on never becoming complacent with the service I aim to offer and will go above and beyond to ensure your every visit to the studio is of the highest quality.

Let’s fix a date -
beautiful colour starts with a consultation (and a patch test 😉)
