Our Service Manager, Sharon, attended the Childrens Food Summit in Leeds recently. Breakouts and workshops explored future ideas for improving school food, advertising policies, use of taxes and how to achieve greater diversity and inclusion in campaigning on children's food. It was a great chance for attendees to have more focused discussions, share ideas and good practice and raise interesting questions.

Local TV presenter Peg Alexander joined young people in handing out the Children's Food 'Yummy' and 'Yucky' Awards. Winners included councils introducing local food advertising policies, a project linking school children with the farms their food comes from, the youth campaign Bite Back 2030 as well as some outstanding individuals. Following public voting, the Yucky villains included a breakfast cereal brand, an energy drink and a confectionery company.

It was a good day, bringing key industry voices together and raising key issues such as funding for school meals.

Jack is one of the students on an Apprenticeship with Bury Catering at Hoyle Nursery from Bury College.

It was great catching up with Jack last week. The former pupil has gained employment at Hoyle Nursery after impressing on his Supported Internship.

World Book Day! Celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March by taking part in a competition organised by Bury Libraries and Bury Catering in primary schools.

Happy New Year to all our catering staff! Many of you have been working really hard to increase the number of pupils who eat our fantastic school meals. Some Kitchen Managers have had increases of 40 child diners a day! That's unprecedented in my experience. next time we post - we will do some shout outs.
