Clarence Runners
Bury's dedicated running group. No commitment. No charge. You never regret a run. I promise!
As a community group, we encourage all ages and abilities to get out and about in our beautiful surroundings, improving your physical and mental wellbeing.
If you’re not sure which way to turn, turn to us! ⬆️⬇️⬅️➡️
Our volunteers keep you on the straight and narrow path, make sure you only do two laps, and offer amazing encouragement for our runners and walkers at Clarence park.
Fancy joining them? We’d love to pop you on the roster for this weekend’s event! We’ve got lots of spaces for high vis heroes 🦺
If you can help us out … as a marshal, funnel manager, timekeeper or barcode scanner, drop us a comment below or email us at [email protected] and we’ll point you in the right direction 😉
Thank you!
Good luck to everyone running Manchester Marathon today!
The weather looks perfect for you
Have a great day
Looks like we'll have a run in the snow this evening. Gail force winds forecast as well.
I'm hoping it doesn't get to the point we need to cancel but please check on here before setting off in case we need to make a late call.
If going ahead:
6pm - Clarence Lido (Jubilee Centre) - 5(ish)k run at social pace.
**Postponed to the 26th due to adverse weather**
🐤 Next week we start our beginners running programme which will support you to completing a 5k after just 9 weeks.
🐤 There is no cost, we just want to share our passion for running and give others the chance to start their fitness/running journey with us.
🐤 You can then continue your running journey with us and other groups such as the fabulous The Sunnywood Project who also support your running journey from the ground up. We really are one of the best areas to be running in with an amazing running community and beautiful locations. 🏃♀️🏃🏃♂️
Happy New Year!
Our first Thursday social of 2023 will be today so start your year as you mean to go on
6pm - Clarence Lido (by the Jubilee Centre) - 5k (7min/k pace)
Also, please see our notice for our Couch to 5k programme starting on the 19th Jan to mark our 1st anniversary
Look forward to seeing you all
🏃♀️🏃🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃🏃♂️🏆🥇🥈🥉🏅🎖
Our scheduled runs
Meeting by Clarence Lido outside the Jubilee Centre every week
Tuesday morning - 6.45am
Thursday evening - 6.00pm
Sunday morning - 9.15am (including Burrs Sunnywood run)
All abilities welcome and we start and finish together.
Andrea Sidebottom will lead a 'Jeffing' group today.
'Jeffing' is run/walk intervals.
The interval time can be adjusted but my plan is to do a 120 second run and 90 second walk.
You go at your own pace and we use the walk period to regroup (leaders walk back if necessary)
Jeffing is a great way to build up your running stamina and confidence.
Meet at The Jubilee Centre at 6pm.
See you later 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ 🚶♀️ 🚶♂️
I love a good running story
It was an incredible achievement by Britain's Jake Wightman yesterday. Beating off the worlds best to take gold at the World Champs in Oregon. He couldn't quite believe it and neither could his Dad, who happened to be the stadium commentator for the race and could be heard shouting - 'That's my son! And he's the World Champion!'
YES! Britain's Jake Wightman wins 1500m gold at the World Championships The 28-year-old produced a stunning run to take gold at the World Championships in Oregon
Morning everyone
Here's 7 top tips for running in the heat
Stay Hydrated:
The easiest way to avoid heat disorders is to keep your body hydrated. This means drinking fluids before, during, and after exercise.
Choose Clothing Carefully:
Light-colored, loose-fitting clothing will help your body breathe and cool itself down naturally.
Run Early or Late:
Try to avoid running between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun's intensity is at its greatest. If you must train during those hours, try to stick to shady roads or trails.
Don't Push It:
Brutal heat and humidity mean that you should scale back your performance goals. Don't try to beat the heat. Focus on effort and not pace.
Wear Suncream:
Protect your skin with a waterproof Suncream that has an SPF of at least 15 and offers broad-spectrum protection, which means it protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
Make a Splash:
Use water to cool yourself during runs. If you are overheating, splashing water on your head and body will cool you down quickly and have a lasting effect as the water evaporates from your skin.
Get Educated:
Be familiar with the signs of heat problems so you recognize them in yourself or in a running partner. If you feel faint, dizzy, disoriented, have stopped sweating, or your skin is cool and clammy, slow down or stop running, and get some fluids.
Good afternoon everyone
The weather is currently looking ideal having cooled down a bit.
