Gain access to failed uPVC mechanism.

The old mechanism was discontinued so installed a universal repair lock which was in the van.

The customer complained that the uPVC patio door wasn't locking, this was down to a mechanism failure.
I Swapped out the gearbox and made a few adjustments to the align the door. By aligning the door it will increase the longevity of the new part fitted.

Also had to replace the lock with a British standard 1 Star antisnap cylinder, this due to lost keys.

A few internal doors handles needed some attention also.

Common problem with internal doors is that when the handles are installed the bolt through screws that are provided are usually not fitted.
These screw are essential to the handle and will prevent the wood screws being pulled out the door when operating it.

These are usually found in lever on rose type handles but also many other styles.

Some handles rely on a grub screw to hold them to the spindle instead of the bolt through screws.
The handles fitted today used both types of screw, ensuring the handles stay firmly on the door at all times.

I adjusted the lock and added a new locking nut in addition to the original, this will prevent the issue reoccurring again in the future.

Take this Chubb 5 lever detainer sash lock, installed in 1978.

After around 43 years of constant usage without lubrication it failed.

Inspected the lock only to find no broken/worn out parts the fault was caused by the grime build up.

Full strip down cleaned off the grime, lubricated and ready to go hopefully for another 40 years.
