With all the bad things happening in the World, you may not have heard...

Another earthquake has hit western Afghanistan, just days after two large quakes in the same region killed more than 1,000 people.

The new 6.3 magnitude quake struck at around 05:10 local time (00:40 GMT) on Wednesday, 28km (17 miles) north of Herat, killing at least one person.

More than 100 were injured and taken to hospital, health officials said.

Unicef said more than 90% of those who died in this week's earthquakes in Afghanistan were women and children.

The wider impact of the latest quake is not yet clear, but many people were sleeping in the open after their homes were destroyed on Saturday.

The governor of Herat province said there had been significant damage. Many phone and power lines are down. Aid agencies have said there is also a shortage of blankets, food and other supplies.

An eyewitness in central Herat, where some houses still stand, said she woke up screaming and ran out of her home.

Luckily the ladies who knit our lovely slipper socks are located furthur south in Kandahar Province, but this is truely awful news, the people of Afghanistan were struggling to feed and clothe themselves before their houses were destroyed in these terrible earthquakes.

Shining shoes for a piece of bread More and more Afghan children are having to work to support their families, amidst an economic collapse.

The DEC have finally launched an appeal to help the people in Afghanistan, 6 weeks after we were first highlighting the problem and pledging to give a pound for every pair of slipper socks sold in the run up to Christmas.
So thanks to your amazing support slipper socks have been flying out do we’ll be making a large donation.

You may have heard on the news about the situation in Afghanistan. Basically 23 million people are in imminent risk of starvation. The situation was bad before the Taliban took over, but since then most governments and aid agencies have pulled out of the country, leaving the poor people of Afghanistan to fend for themselves. These are ordinary people, not fighters, no one asked them if they wanted the Taliban to take over, they are the victims of years of foreign interference in their country.
We have been supporting lots of women who make our Afghan Slipper Socks.They are hand knitted by women who have been widowed in the conflict, buying our slipper socks really helps them earn an income so that they can support their families.

We have just received a new shipment of 1200 slipper socks from Afghanistan and now given the dire situation in the country we want to help more and are giving £1 for each pair of slipper socks sold between now and Christmas to the upcoming DEC appeal for Afghanistan.

For those of you who don’t know, our Slipper Socks are the perfect winter alternative to cold feet! They are very versatile, they can be worn around the house as slippers or in your wellies as socks! They have a leather sole on them which is soft but hand wearing on carpets and solid floors.
They come in sizes small to XL and being hand knitted come in a multitude of designs and colours.

This year getting our slipper socks from Afghanistan has been quite a challenge. We managed to get a shipment across the border, by camel train, into Pakistan a few days before the Taliban took over. Then trying to get cargo out of Pakistan was a nightmare due to there being a shortage of shipping containers. The good news is that they have finally arrived!
They are hand knitted by women who have been widowed in the conflict, buying our slipper socks really helps them earn an income and rebuild their lives. Things have changed quite a bit under the new regime and many of the women who make our slipper socks have been internally displaced, so it could be a while until we get any more shipments from Afghanistan.
Our Slipper Socks are the perfect winter alternative to cold feet! They are very versatile, they can be worn around the house as slippers or in your wellies as socks! They have a leather sole on them which is soft but handwearing on carpets and solid floors.
They come in four sizes from small to extra large, A small size is around UK size 2- 4, medium UK size 5 - 7, large UK size 8 - 10, XL UK size 11+.

We have just received a large shipment of Afghan Slipper socks, by sheer good luck we got them out of Afghanistan a few days before the Taliban took over. These days getting anything in or out is far harder.
