Tibetan singing bowls have a rich history rooted in ancient Buddhist traditions. Originating in the Himalayan region, particularly Tibet, Nepal, and India, these bowls have been used for centuries in spiritual and healing practices. Their exact origins are somewhat obscure, but they are believed to date back over 2,000 years to the time of the Buddha.
Traditionally made from a blend of seven metals—copper, tin, iron, lead, gold, silver, and mercury—Tibetan singing bowls are renowned for their resonant, harmonious sound. The crafting process involves hand-hammering the metal into shape, creating bowls that vary in size and tone.
Singing bowls are used in a variety of practices, including meditation, sound healing, and ceremonial rituals. When struck or played by rubbing a mallet around the rim, they produce a soothing, harmonious tone that is believed to promote relaxation, balance, and spiritual growth. The vibrations emitted by the bowls are said to align and balance the body's energy centers (chakras), helping to relieve stress and enhance mental clarity.
We source our Tibetan singing Bowls from a family in Kathmandu who have been making them for generations. Each one is hand made and then hand tuned by hammering the bowl to give the perfect sound. Hammering the bowl gives the bowl a wide range of harmonics rather than just one pure note, this is the mark of a high quality singing bowl.
FROM OUR OWN COLLECTION
Check out our range of special Singing Bowls, they are hand crafted in the back streets of Kathmandu by one of our fair trade producers, a family business that has been making these wonderful bowls for generations.
These bowls are some of our most impressive Singing Bowls, as they are crafted on the phase of the Full moon, which legend has it means that the singing bowl aligns its energy with lunar cycle. They are bowls that fosters a sense of connection to the universe helping us to manifest desires and intentions. We only have a few of each and when they'res gone, they're gone!
Full Moon Singing Bowls also known as Lunar Harmony Bowls assists in balancing energy promoting alignment and vitality. The resonant tones produced when struck by the wooden mallet create a sacred atmosphere, enhancing the potency and significance of the spiritual rituals. These bowls are widely known to cultivate mindfulness, presence, and a deeper awareness of the present moment. The calming tone produced can deepen serenity, aids unwinding, and stimulates healing at a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.
To play the singing bowl it should be placed either on the flat of the hand or on it's cushion. I prefer the flat of the hand as then you can feel the vibrations of the bowl through your hand as well as hearing the sound. It can then either be struck with the wooden mallet which produces a beautiful range of harmonics that slowly decay, or it can be made to sing by rubbing the mallet around the outside of the bowl applying a steady pressure. This is a very mindful activity as it centre's the bodies attention, if your attention wanders you find the bowl starts to produce discordant sounds
Our Extra Large Full Moon Singing Bowl produces a wonderfully deep sound with many harmonics, the sound slowly decays when you stop playing.

Have you seen our beautiful new rag rugs, eco friendly and cool with it!
Our new beautiful collection of Chindi Rag Rugs have just arrived from our amazing fair trade producers in Rajasthan, India.
Chindi rag rugs are vibrant, eco-friendly floor coverings traditionally handcrafted in India from recycled fabric scraps. The term “chindi” translates to “scrap” or “rags” in Hindi, aptly describing these rugs’ composition of leftover textile pieces. Artisans weave these colourful, patchwork designs using a loom, creating visually striking and durable rugs that bring a rustic, artistic charm to any space.
Each chindi rug is unique, reflecting the diverse fabrics and colours used in its creation. This uniqueness not only enhances their aesthetic appeal but also tells a story of sustainability and resourcefulness. By repurposing discarded materials, chindi rag rugs significantly reduce textile waste, promoting eco-conscious living.
Our Extra Large Rag Rugs measure 110 cm by 200 cm and lovely and soft, they are perfect for bedrooms, nurseries, living rooms conservatories, studies etc.
As they are handmade from offcuts from garment making, each rag rug is unique and will difer from the rug photographed, but this means you have something unique, which was especially made just for you.

I love these Rajasthani musicians!
Pushkar is an ancient Holy Town, it is sacred to Lord Brahma and is full of pilgrims who come to worship at the Brahma temple and have Puja in the holy lake.
It is also a centre for textiles and garment production in Rajasthan. We have been working with the same producers here for the last 25 years and we still love coming here and breathing in the calm spiritual atmosphere.
Jaisalmer is an amazing place out in the Great Thar Desert. It’s huge golden sandstone fort looms out of the desert and there are still hundreds of families living inside the fort. We go there to seek out tribal embroidery which is made in the villages around the region and brought to Jaisalmer where it is traded.

With all the bad things happening in the World, you may not have heard...
Another earthquake has hit western Afghanistan, just days after two large quakes in the same region killed more than 1,000 people.
The new 6.3 magnitude quake struck at around 05:10 local time (00:40 GMT) on Wednesday, 28km (17 miles) north of Herat, killing at least one person.
More than 100 were injured and taken to hospital, health officials said.
Unicef said more than 90% of those who died in this week's earthquakes in Afghanistan were women and children.
The wider impact of the latest quake is not yet clear, but many people were sleeping in the open after their homes were destroyed on Saturday.
The governor of Herat province said there had been significant damage. Many phone and power lines are down. Aid agencies have said there is also a shortage of blankets, food and other supplies.
An eyewitness in central Herat, where some houses still stand, said she woke up screaming and ran out of her home.
Luckily the ladies who knit our lovely slipper socks are located furthur south in Kandahar Province, but this is truely awful news, the people of Afghanistan were struggling to feed and clothe themselves before their houses were destroyed in these terrible earthquakes.
If you would like to help the British Red Cross has launched an appeal.
