Oreno Announces Closure, Effective 30th September 2023

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closure of Oreno, effective 30th September 2023. This decision was not made lightly, but it is imperative for me to prioritise my health and recover from a back injury sustained earlier this year.

Operating Oreno has been an incredible journey, filled with the joy of serving our amazing customers and collaborating with suppliers and venue organisers. From its inception, Oreno faced significant challenges, launching amidst the COVID-19 outbreak and a shortage of hospitality staff. Throughout this initial phase, the unwavering support of my friends proved invaluable. The Japanese principle of "kaizen," the relentless pursuit of perfection, has been my driving force.

Fortunately, Oreno's closure comes at a time when I can proudly say it reached the pinnacle of its success. We have had the privilege of catering at pop-ups, special dining events, birthdays, corporate gatherings, and weddings. Notably, we competed alongside the country's finest street food vendors at the prestigious British Street Food Awards.

To all my friends who stood by me when I made the challenging decision to change my career path, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. I am deeply appreciative to those who dedicated their time to help with cooking and serving, even during the most challenging sessions, such as the roof melting mishap, extractor fan malfunction, and excessive temperatures during the heat waves. Your unwavering support has been invaluable.

I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the funding campaign that enabled me to acquire Bambi, our trusty food truck.

While it saddens me that this journey must come to an end, I hold hope that Oreno may reopen its hatch in the future. In the meantime, I invite you to join us one last time before Saturday 30th September to savour our food and bid farewell to Oreno.

Your continued support has meant the world to me, and I am truly grateful for the memories and experiences we've shared. Thank you for being a part of Oreno's incredible journey.

You know what the big deal is about these crispy delights when you’ve had an Oreno chicken teriyaki donburi or poké bowl.

Our most popular robatayaki poké bowl is definitely chicken teriyaki. Made with ume sushi rice, avocado, radish, carrot, edamame, cucumber, cabbage, marinated chicken thigh (plus crispy skin), and kewpie mayonnaise. Leaving you feeling overjoyed with amazing flavour and freshness.

We are making our return to Thirsty for a 5 course menu on New Year’s Eve. Booking is open on our website with a few available tables.

We had a lucky few experience some dishes last night so we thought we’d share a couple of photos with you.

Our Donburi bowls are meticulously made without compromise. Simple meals aren’t always easy and quick.

1) Salmon Teriyaki - marinated salmon fillet, grilled crispy skin, soft and tender in the center.

2) Miso Aubergine - crisscross scored and slow cooked, sweet miso sauce caramelised with charred back.

3) Steak Teriyaki - 30 day dry aged rib-eye steak, dry brined and flash grilled for a seared exterior, rested then sliced to be served medium rare.

Our premium sushi rice is sticky and fluffy, seasoned with sushi ume offering rich and tasty texture.

We only receive massive praise for our fresh ingredients and delicious sushi recipes. Therefore it’s making a return to our regular menu.

Kushiyaki on robata grill. To accomplish that charr and caramelised texture the kushiyaki is bathed in tare sauce when they are cooking over binchotan charcoal. Each meat has its own profile of flavours and juicy end result. Eaten apart of a poke bowl or alone with a beer or paired wine.
