Squire Law Library

The Squire Law Library is one of the largest academic legal collections in the UK.

The Squire Law Library was funded by a bequest from Miss Rebecca Flower Squire and was officially opened by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on 1 March 1904. Today, the Squire Law Library is embedded in the Faculty of Law and occupies the top three floors of the David Williams Building. It is categorised as an affiliated library of Cambridge University Library and is one of the largest academic

New week, new books! There were lots of new titles added to the library print collections this week and you can browse a selection of them on our New Books Display now.

Titles on display include Rights and Right-holding: A Philosophical Investigation by Matthew H. Kramer (Oxford University Press, 2024) and the second edition of A Practitioner’s Guide to Ancillary Orders in Criminal Courts by Dr Elaine Freer and Ryan Evans (Bloomsbury, 2024).

The sun may not be shining but the summer vacation is here!

A reminder that today is the last day of term time opening hours at the Squire Law Library. The library will be closed on Saturday 15 June and Sunday 16 June.

From 17 June - 4 October inclusive the library vacation opening hours will be: 09:00-16:45 (Monday-Friday). The Squire team are here throughout the vacation so please don’t hesitate to get in contact if we can assist.

Squire Law Librarian David Wills gives the Willi Steiner Memorial Lecture, “Law, Librarianship: Past, Present….and an Artificial Future?”, at the British & Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL) Annual Conference today.

The Conference takes place in Leeds and brings together law librarians and information professionals working with legal information from across the UK and Ireland.

It’s the first day of Easter term and term time opening hours are back! The library will be open from 09:00-20:45 (Monday-Friday) and 09:00-17:45 (Saturday).

The library is open to all staff and student members of the University of Cambridge. During this Easter term revision and exam period the first floor study spaces are reserved for Law students and Faculty members, whilst the second and third floor study spaces are available for all staff and students to use. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

The Squire Law Library changes to vacation opening hours from today!

The library will be open from 09:00-18:45 (Monday-Friday) and 09:00-12:45 (Saturday) throughout the vacation, except for the Easter bank holiday weekend closure (29 March - 1 April inclusive).

The library team are here and very pleased to assist with your enquiries so please do contact us via email, telephone or in person.

It’s the last day of full term, but the Squire will remain on termtime opening hours up to and including Wednesday 20 March!

We’re open from 09:00-17:45 on Saturday and 09:00-20:45 this coming Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The library is open to all current staff and student members of the University: so, if you’re preparing for MCL exams, catching up on reading or just exploring new places to study, do come and visit.

We’re celebrating International Women’s Day today! 8 March is International Women’s Day: celebrating women’s achievements and raising awareness about discrimination. The campaign theme of this year’s event is inspiring inclusive.

A pop up display in the library foyer brings together a selection of titles by and about women in the legal profession. Explore biographies of legal pioneers or browse works by current barristers, solicitors, judges and activists whose stories inform and inspire.

A reminder that the Squire Law Library will close for the holidays at 12:45 on Friday 22 December.

If you’re visiting the library this week we are open from 09:00-18:45 today, tomorrow and on Thursday and then from 09:00-12:45 on Friday, and we look forward to welcoming you!

Click and collect and Scan and deliver services will operate until 17:00 on Thursday 21 December. Requests placed after this time will be processed when we reopen on Tuesday 2 January, so please plan ahead for any vacation reading!
