Most of you will have heard about the passing away of George Hemmings last month. We are still all saddened by the news - I (Britta Kleinsorge ) did not want to make an earlier post to give some space to the family first. I personally had known George Hemmings since the late 1990s and remember a remarkable trip to Switzerland in 1999 to celebrate 30 years of the Swiss Aikikai (there were of course other trips as well ... 40 years of Swiss Aikikai, one or two more to Switzerland and some to Ireland). He also had the remarkable energy to organise a huge event with Yamada Sensei in St Ives as well as many other courses with remarkable teachers such as Michele Quaranta, Donovan Waite and Terry Ezra. He was generally a happy and enthusiastic person to be around (although, at times, one had to wait a little bit for him to make an appearance ...). We will always remember him.
I have now received a notice of his funeral in May. I was told I can pass on to anyone who would like to attend, but don't want to publicise here. So please get in touch directly - best by email ([email protected]) or contact me personally.

Aikido: A Japanese martial art practiced by millions 04/09/2023

An article on Aikido on the BBC travel website!
"What I like about this practice are the bonds that form between people on and off stage...At first, it could seem like it's all about making your opponent fall, but real aikido is about taking care of and connecting to others."

Aikido: A Japanese martial art practiced by millions Emphasising self-defence rather than victory, Japan's youngest martial art brings both new and veteran practitioners from across the globe to Tanabe, the town where it was born.
