I know badges over time change, and new brandings come out. There are also a lot of unofficial badges. Looking back you can't beat some of the bygone embroidery! Here is a 2nd Battalion badge that recently caught my attention.
Not all, but some of the volunteers and trustees for our annual Festive thank you lunch. We could do what we do or be as active in events and cadet visits without them! Also in the office doing some behind the scenes work. Thank you for a great 2023 and we look forward to next year! If you want to volunteer, even just for the odd event, please get in touch!
Another winter-themed post! These colourful pots of wax for skis. Different colours for different temperatures. From the ACE Mobile time period. I miss the old fun packaging of other decades!
It was really great at the field of remembrance and a lovely experience, and meeting new people but seeing familiar faces as well.
How unique are these? Early snow and wind goggles with wire and mesh sides! These have been in the collection since almost the opening of the museum! Does anyone remember wearing them and if they were any good?
A little bit late but a lovely picture from Remembrance day at the memorial this year. Does anyone have any they would like to share?
Hope everyone has a nice remembrance day. Full of reflection, remembering those we have lost, as well as thankfulness for what we have now because of those who sacrificed.
We will remember them.
Another feature from the Royal Leicestershire Regiment Museum. I love the role animals play in the Regiment, and have seen various picture with puppies, or platoon dogs named Almansa. This dog from is another example of different times, but the same companionship with animals in hard times in conflict.
Exercise Poachers Prowl, Belguim, 1992. Picture of Cpl Wright, Mortar platoon. I enjoy the variety of photos in our collection, the candid ones, and the ones like this that appear in Castle
As remembrance Sunday approaches, Royal Anglians do get free entry, but the normal public does not. If you arrive and let them know you are a veteran or serving, you should have free entry. It will be easier if you have an association card, are wearing medals or your beret as well. Sadly I cannot attend this year, and I will really miss greeting you when you arrive.
We received this hexi cooker with an attachment for a water bottle. Who remembers using these during their service?
I am going to be at the opening ceremony of the field of Remembrance at the Royal Anglian plot. It is an honour, and I am very lucky to get this opportunity.
Happy Halloween! I recently went to the Royal Leicestershire Regiment Museum in Newarke House. I have more pictures to share from this, but the darkness and sound effects of the trench were a bit terrifying.
A really nice set of medals donated on behalf of L/Cpl Rowlands. He served from 1940 in the Lincolnshire Regiment, left in 1952, and rejoined until 1973. We are looking into getting more information on him, but such a long service and interesting group!
Throwback to when we had a case for the colder weather! I love this case but it hasn't existed since I have been here, but I think parts of it may need to come back. This SLR is still in our weapons locker and I get asked about the white tape a lot!
Some 1st Battalion photos of Kabul, from Op Fingal in Afghanistan.
Aerial view of Maifield stadium with the battalion formed up outside it, row of tanks. For the Queens birthday in Berlin, 1979, the 2nd Battalion.
We have lots of lovely pictures of tattoos in Germany, but I think the aerial really provides a glimpse of the magnitude.
New acquisition! We do have a copy of the infamous time the 3rd Battalion band was in the last series of Blackadder. However I am pointing to Tony Baldwin who gave us this one and is standing with me! He also brought us some other great donations, Thank you Tony!
Just love a caricature from the Regiment! We have a couple already but this one was just given this week of the band and I was very gleeful!
A nice picture from Sandhurst in the collection. Although not all Royal Anglians, some dapper looking chaps!
We had a new face in last week to see how museums work as she may be a future curator. Together we decided it would be a fun project to find 'celebrity look alikes'. This picture is featured in the galleries and well known, but don't you think the man on the left looks a little like Ryan Gosling?
A picture from the collection, Anyone recognise these faces?
What a great last big airshow of the year! There is one more smaller flying day in October, but we were very busy all day!
How GREAT is this ice bucket? I would love to use this in my personal life but this one will stay in the collection unused and cared for.
Who would buy this if it was in the regimental shop?
Lovely and interesting little ash tray/rifle stock. I love obvious Royal Anglian acquisitions, but also these quirky items that come with a collection from one persons history.
The Object of the Month! It is a new acquisition, a silver tray from the 1st battalion, 1970-72. It lists WOI, WOII and Sergeants serving. A lovely piece but so hard to photograph the names as it is so reflective.
As I spend the day in the Museum tent at the reunion, the museum didn't get any photos of the day! Would love to see peoples pictures from the day! Here is one I loved from the East Anglian Regiment veterans!
Here`s a video of the Poachers A (Lincolnshire) Coy at Castlemartin for you!
I don't know why I found this so interesting, but at the beginning of the tour book for Herrick 6, a list of ammunition expenditure.
Love this little cartoon for the airshow! We are firmly in the center if you can see an outline cartoon of our badge! Is anyone coming to see us this weekend?
Another in our sign series with RQMS David Whitehead.
I know I have had debated about holding the sterling on the magazine or barrel, so I enjoyed this picture of a very obvious answer
Loved this little maple medal in the collection! As we have Canadian and other allied Regiments, we do occasionally receive things like this from service from all over the globe!
found this picture from 1976 at Gillingham, just enjoyed the whole scene and the set up mortars.
Going through the events box, I really liked the drawing on this dinner program. Did anyone attend this dinner?
The reunion here at Duxford is on Sunday, the 3rd of September. It will be held in the same spot as last year, which is here in this spot, in front of the memorial instead of to the side behind the tree line.
