Badger Class have been learning about the Ancient Sumer. We had a very exciting lesson today with our Sumerian expert Ms Besiner, acting as archeologists. We touched and inspected real, 6000 year old pottery shards and used observations skills to decide if they were shards from cooking ware, dinner ware, or storage vessels. Grace spotted burn marks on the cookware, Yusif figured out the size of a pot by the angle of its lid and Thomas identified which shards had interior decorations, deducing they were probably dinner plates.
Badger class are learning about matter, materials and chemical and physical changes. Today, they looked at melting and cooling, by attempting to melt chocolate using varying temperatures of water. They discovered that 40 degrees is best, and that sometimes tinfoil boats let the water in! They also attempted to melt chocolate on their tongue. They had to hold a piece of chocolate on in their mouth without chewing for 3 minutes - it was tough! They also tried melting it in their hands, and found only Miss Pauley’s were warm enough to do so in 3 minutes!

Badger class have been exploring Greek Theatre. We researched the traditions and innovations of the theatre and completed a Greek Theatre Quiz. Now, the children have started sculpting their own Greek Masks from clay, trying to carefully show a Greek mythological figure, and a specific emotion.
Can you guess who they’re sculpting?
In Art club, we have been exploring clay as a medium. Today, the children made ‘monster pinch pots’. We had to use score and slip to attach features, rolling, pinning and twisting to create shapes and creativity to decide on our shapes. Next week we will paint them!
