I hope for the day where we all stop believing in systems that cannot hold themselves, such as capitalism and the linear system.

Take-make-dispose, where is the space for regeneration and holistic thinking?

Let´s all try to stop believing that we need staff and/or services to fill any space that we are lacking.

Thinking that recycling is a solution to the climate emergency is a thinking rather old, the focus on recycling and reducing waste has created a collective misdirection instead of paying attention to the end life cycle of products.

In the end, only 9% of plastic gets recycled and landfills are so packed that they create an environment free of oxygen which makes it difficult for food waste to biodegrade.

What we can do as consumers is to try to reduce as much as we can our consumption of plastics and materials that cannot be repurposed.

Whenever I explain what the circular economy is I find myself searching for the best words that discribe this concept.

It is quite simple, nature work in cycles and so do we.

The linear economy is just a misunderstanding of what we are. We are so connected to nature and should strive to work in collaboration and not against it.

Have you ever found it confusing to recycle plastic?

A good rule of thumb is to check your local council website for their recycling page.

I hope this little chart gives some clarity.

Remember, the less plastic we consume the better :)

What if we reshape the neoliberal script and we start picturing the economy embedded within the Earth´s capacity?

Kate Raworth´s book, Doughnut Economics: 7 Ways to Think Like a 21st Century Economist, is a scream towards breaking the old story that we have been told about the free market, the Homo Economicus and the solulely focus on the productivity of the market.

Let´s start shifting our mindset to a more inclusive, fair and interconnected economy.

I wanted to share my favourite zero waste swap. I love using glass jars for making my hot drinks, they not only are aesthetic but very versitale! One day you can use them for keeping food and the other as your reusable coffee cup!

Sometime ago I had the realisation that we see second hand items as dirty or not as good as new. Made me think deeply about the culture of consumerism in our society. Most of the times second hand items have more story and for me that means they are more special. Quote from the book "Al borde de un ataque de compras".

Photos from Your Zero Waste Community's post 08/05/2021

Did you know coffee-to-go cups are a big pollutant in our current system?. Their materials, which are a mix of cardboard and a line of plastic makes it a "hybrid" item, concept from . Also, the plastic contained in these cups have chemicals which are released at hot temperatures. Not only that, the life cycle of this item (thinking of the end life of this item) is very small. Think about it when you buy a coffee to go how long does it take you to throw it in the bin once its consumed? Not long unfortunately. This item has little purpose, a very big step to reduce waste today could be buying a reusable coffee cup (not one made of bamboo as its been studied is toxic too!!). Lets take care of the planet!!

Do we really understand who is behind the products we consume? What are the working conditions and quality of life of the employees?
There is a need to deprogramme our mindset from the throw away culture.

Kicking the plastic habit | Laura Young | TEDxGlasgow

Please remember:
*Only 9% of plastic ends up been recycled, most plastics end up in landfill and then incinerated which then goes to into the atmosphere and contributes to air pollution
*Most plastics cant be recycled
*Plastic does not have an end-life and it can take up to 450 years to completely decompose
