**FINGERS CROSSED THIS UPLOADS RIGHT** second time lucky hopefully! I have been working on something a little different recently. Frogs!🐸 My 10year olds birthday is coming up and she LOVES frogs. She wants a frog more than anything but that’s not possible for us atm so I’ve been trying to make her a basket of frog bits. I’ve been searching for T-shirt’s and art for her room to add to the basket. I’ve found a few bits but nothing that seems quite right. So I decided to give a go at drawing something for her. Leopard forarm! This was day Three on a three day sitting. Cant wait to get this sleeve finished and add the finishing touches to this Leopard. Was a fab three days with my client. Cant wait to get back in the studio with him and work on this sleeve again. Although not in quite such a long sit again. Once a month is probably more like it 😆. Doing long sittings are tough on body and mind! It’s a joy to create pieces that I love and have designed but it’s also a joy to spend time with the people wearing my art. Bill is a mechanic and loves his dogs. I also love learning all about his grandads sailing career in the navy. - I tattooed the boat Bills’ grandad served on, on Bills other arm last year! I love history and Disney both due to my dad, at the beginning he showed me Disney, then history and he showed me art. Taking me to art galleries and museums whenever he could spare time off. Most of my favourite childhood memories are spending time with my dad. Making pictures in the clouds, viewing an eclipse, going to see Raphael and leonardo da Vinci in London museums - as well as watching all the TMNT together 🤣 But Hercules has always been one of my dad’s favourites Disney films. Ancient Greece was one of his favourite historical eras to learn about and he loved the sculptures and vases from that era too. So when Disney mixed there cartoons with the history he loved it became form favourite in our household. Hades was his favourite villain. I wanted to create a piece that mixed these elements all together. I mention my dad because recently he’s been unwell and I haven’t got to talk to him due to the pain he’s experiencing. It’s made me realise a lot of my childhood memories are with him. He shaped who I am today. He gave me my love of art and history. He may not like tattoos- but he took me to get my ears pierced in a tattoo studio (my first experience in one) and he was so excited to show me his own tattoos (three dots for radiotherapy). When I was starting to post this. I didn’t know what to write. But I guess I needed to talk about my dad. This piece is up for grabs. I would absolutely love to do this piece as a thigh piece or a sleeve! This piece was the start to me realising I wanted to tattoo different styles mixed together. I’d been stuck in a rut for a while unable to draw anything I wanted to do. Just doing booked in pieces. I had this in my head for a while but I just couldn’t get myself to make it. I eventually messed around and created this piece and wrote f**k as I was so frustrated 😅 it is definitely my favourite design atm so I decided to turn it into a sleeve concept too. So here it is. Gorgeous build a sleeve with Erin. Erin told me what flowers she wanted and I drew up a few different pieces. Thought this was fun and you might enjoy some silliness from in my life. He is mildly trying to annoy me but also wants to make me giggle when he adds bits. It’s usually when I’m stressed and struggling with the design unsure if it’s finished or wanting to give up so he ends up adding something fun to make me laugh or I roll my eyes but it lightens my mood enough to keep drawing. My first tattoo was lots of little butterflies up my arm. I wanted lots of big butterflies on my outer arm 5x8inches each in size. But my artist talked me in to getting lots of smaller butterflies - each only a few cms in size. The reasoning was that I didn’t know how I would sit and if I remember correctly the smirked comment between the two artists were “love, you won’t be able to..why don’t we do lots of small ones, that’ll look more feminine and we can get that all done today” I was in a tattoo shop early 00s and I was intimidated. I agreed. I didn’t speak up at all. I thought oh they know what they’re on about. I need to listen. Now don’t get me wrong I have loved my butterflies. BUT I wish I had stood up for myself. I wish I’d discussed it more. I wish I’d asked why is it better? What about just doing one big one instead? I spend my days telling clients to go bigger. TO get the bigger tattoo. Not smaller. I tell people small is nice but if you’re worried about pain you will go through it either way. Get the tattoo you want not what you think you should start with. I wish I could tell myself to say no I know what I want and be more confident. I’m not saying ignore your artist. What I am saying is know yourself and advocate for yourself. Ask the questions, understand why they’re saying to make a change. Ask them why. And if you’re still not sure. Maybe they aren’t the artist for you. I am always blown away by so many of my first time clients. They sit better than they think they will and their smiles are contagious.
