As part of our Environment Day, members of the King's Sailing team and students from our International College visited Herne Bay to take part in a beach clean. In conjunction with Herne Bay Sailing Club and Plastic Clever Schools, the group collected lots of small plastics and abandoned fishing tackle from the beach. The day forms part of our application for an Eco-Schools Green Flag, which recognises educators and young people who are taking steps to tackle environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity-loss, or plastic pollution.
đ§Ș On Sunday, 16 June, we hosted our Family Science Day, the final event of the year for the science outreach program at The King's School. Children from the local area enjoyed a series of activities led by pupils and staff, with the theme 'Celebration of Science'.
Congratulations to OKS and former King's Governor Nick Lyons (LN/BR 1972-77) who has been made a Knight Bachelor as part of the King's Birthday Honours. He was honoured for his services to the financial sector, growth economy and to financial literacy.
Congratulations to former OKS Presidents Nicholas Lyons (LN/BR 1972-77) and Felicity Lyons (SH 1975-77), Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of the City of London in 2022-23.
Nicholas has been awarded a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours List âFor services to the Financial Sector, to the Growth Economy and to Financial Literacyâ. During his time as Lord Mayor, he championed his 'Financing our Future' theme as well as other significant initiatives including promoting financial literacy and fundraising in support of schools and community outreach in education.
Sir Nicholas said: "It is deeply humbling to receive this honour which reflects the work of many colleagues in the City". He was delighted that Lady Lyonsâ huge contribution to their time in the Mansion House had also been recognised.

đ Recently, we hosted our annual Minilympics event that saw over 90 primary school pupils spend the day at Birley's to enjoy some sporting fun! Activities included touch rugby, running and cricket as well as a talk about healthy food and exercise.
William (Shell, School House) won second prize in an art and photography competition sponsored by and the Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding. Williamâs photographs of a performance at Chinaâs West Lake showcase dancers, lighting, and landscape harmonising to create a spectacular effect. The awards ceremony will take place on June 22nd at Kingâs College London.
âłïž The Kingâs School is proud to share the incredible success of Marc Chapman, who won his fourth World Crazy Golf Championship title at Hastings Adventure Mini Golf. The competition, which took place on 7 and 9 June, celebrated its 21st year and saw more than 90 players from nine countries taking part. Marc, who had previously won the world title in 2018, 2019, and 2021, noted that the ever-changing weather conditions on the seafront made this title particularly challenging. Well done Marc!
The 70th Anniversary Celebration of Linacre House was held at The King's School, Canterbury, on Saturday, 8 June. It was wonderful to see so many generations come together to share their memories and catch up with old friends.
Florence Otedola (BR 2007-2011), best known Cuppy, has been appointed the first ever Kingâs Trust International Ambassador by His Majesty King Charles III.
On 22 May 2024, Cuppy was invited by the King to a reception at Buckingham Palace to talk about her role as an Ambassador and the importance that education has played throughout her life; especially as a female born in Nigeria.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the D Day landings on the beaches of Normandy, France during the Second World War.
Our Memorial Cross stands as a reminder of the great sacrifice of all the servicemen and women who laid down their lives for their country. We are eternally in their debt.

Two of the Scholars Plus discussion groups went on a joint visit this week to Bletchley Park, the HQ of British code breaking in WWII and the birthplace of computer science. The Cluedo-style mansion house and many huts containing exhibits were fascinating in the mind-boggling challenges that were overcome by the thousands of women and men working at Bletchley Park, and the very human stories behind them.
On Sunday, Kingâs Legacy Club, the Robert Rose Society, gathered on a sunny Green Court for their annual lunch. We were delighted to be joined by over 60 of our members and friends, as well as the Head, Captain of School and Society chairman, Richard Ashworth (SH 1960-64).
The mission of the Robert Rose Society is to reach out to those whose lives have been touched and inspired by Kingâs. Members have designated gifts in their will to support Kingâs beyond their lifetime and shape the next generation. Our last [email protected] Recital of this half term is a wonderfully eclectic instrumental programme featuring Mozart's Flute Quartet in D major, the Allemande from Bach's second Partita, Mendelssohn's "Venetianisches Gondellied", Ernest Bloch's expressive "Meditation" and Brahms's gentle Intermezzo in A major.

Our 6b Drama pupils enjoyed a full day of theatre in London. They started with a trip to the National Theatre Archive for a screening of Small Island, followed by a backstage tour and then a performance of London Tide.
The King's Junior sailing team travelled to Alton Water in Suffolk over the weekend to compete in the RHS Spring Trophy.
For the sailors taking part, this was their first experience of team racing but with great determination, teamwork and partnerships beginning to form, they managed to pick up four wins throughout the day.
A great day's racing at Borne at Chiswick Bridge Regatta concluded with wins for the Shell Boys' Quad in an all-King's final, the Senior Boys' Coxless Four, the Senior Girls' Coxed Four in another all-King's final and the Junior Pair.
Great preparation ahead of the National Schools' Regatta at the end of May.
Archie (Remove) hit a fantastic century for the King's U15A team in their recent Miskin Cup fixture.
Bryan (6b) was in action for the Kent U17 rugby team at the weekend, scoring a try in a 50-point win over Middlesex.
Pupils and staff from School House took part in a charity sea swim at Tankerton to raise money for Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK, supporting their mission to enhance water safety education and lifesaving skills.
The event was a real community effort, attended by pupils, families, parents, teachers, chaplains, domestic staff, matrons, and IT staff, raising over ÂŁ2,800.
Neha (Remove) finished a very commendable third in the UK âChinese Bridgeâ Speaking Competition Finals held at SOAS University of London.
Neha represented King's in the advanced individual category, giving a very lively speech and answering all her questions with great confidence. It was an excellent opportunity to see non-native speakers of all levels from over 60 UK schools showing off their Mandarin skills.
Some brilliant jumping saw our Horse Riding team of Sophie (Shell), Sonia (Remove), Julia (Shell), Nivee (Fifth) and Sasha (6b) win the May horse riding competition against Spires Academy and Kent
The victory also secured this year's 'championship' between the schools.
We celebrated Ascension Day this morning with our annual tradition of singing from the roof of Canterbury Cathedral!
Senior members of the Crypt Choir climbed to the Corona Tower to sing Matins, including a rousing performance of Stanford's Coelos Ascendit Hodie.
Our Fencers were in action at the recent Youth Championships. An exciting three days saw King's come away with some great results, including a bronze medal for Jack (Remove) in the U16 ĂpĂ©e and multiple top 15 finishes amongst some of the best young fencers in the country. đ€ș
Our House Sailing Regatta took place at Westbere Lake with Junior, Senior and best House Sailing team trophies up for grabs.
Some great sailing throughout the day saw the Galpin's team of Daniel and Augusta (both Fifth), and Colin (Remove) take the overall win.
Lulu (6b) finished as first Senior helm and Richard (Year 10 at our International College) as first Junior helm.
The boys of Linacre House and members of Kingâs staff took on an almighty challenge over the weekend to raise money for the schoolâs charity of the term, Classrooms In The Clouds
During a 12-hour period, each participant had an hour to row the equivalent height of Mount Everest (8,849 metres) with an overall total target of 637,128 metres.
Some 810,859 metres later, the challenge was complete and over ÂŁ3000 had been raised for this worthwhile charity, which helps support education in Nepal by building classrooms, sponsoring teachers and teacher training and encouraging the employment of female teachers.
Our Senior School General Knowledge Team finished joint third in the National Schoolsâ Challenge. With questions ranging from the history of the Labour Party and Taylor Swift to British cheeses and Greek mythology, the team showed expert knowledge and did extremely well.
Well done to the team of TĂ©a, Nick, Charlie and Luca!
Finn (Sh) was in action for the Canterbury RFC U14s as they were crowned Kent Champions over the weekend.
