This morning from the oldest person to the youngest child we came together and shared in a beautiful time of commitment & renewal in our Covenant Sunday. We are so very blessed at Canterbury Salvation Army.
Canterbury Salvation Army would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas. During the month of December we have a team of volunteers which include our Band and Songsters (choir) and give hours of their time and work hard to spread a little Christmas spirit. You may have seen and heard us on the High Street or collecting in various shops. You may have attended one of our Christmas services or events. This year because of the generosity of Canterbury people and beyond we have been able to provide a Christmas toy parcel to over five hundred children after receiving over two hundred referrals. That’s over five hundred smiling faces on Christmas morning. We have also provided a Christmas treat bag to accompany these parcels filled with some of the season’s favourite treats. But, we couldn’t do it without the generosity of the people in this city. So, Canterbury Salvation Army would like to say a big heart felt thank you and we wish you all a very Happy Christmas. Come and say hello to us on Christmas Eve at The Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Christmas Gift fund carols event held in Rose Square at 6.15pm as we accompany the carol singing.
Wow! What a day! It was amazing to see so many people join us for our Christmas Fayre today. What an amazing team The Salvation Army in Canterbury. I may be covered in glitter for the next week from all the glitter tattoos but all funds raised will go towards our community work. Feeling very Christmassy now!
Our First Things First Brass Group taking part in Y.P weekend. They played a warm up, a Hymn Tune and Robots on the Dancefloor. Well Done everyone!
It was great to be out on the High Street again this morning playing carols and Christmas songs to the people of Canterbury! We even had a very special guest come to support us (more photos to follow!) Also - a big thank you to Franco Manca for providing pizza to keep the band going on a very cold carolling day ❄️
Our First Things First group performed for family and friends at their Pizza & Play Night on Friday! The group has been rehearsing every Friday evening since September, having not been together as a group since March 2020. This was the first time that some of them had ever played in a concert, and it was lovely to have so many people supporting. The group will be taking part in our Community Carol Service on Sunday 11th December at 16:00 if you would like to hear them play live.
This morning we held a Dad dancing competition during our service. John Marsh, age 85 won. What a great sport. Wishing Happy Fathers Day to all.
After taking a short break over Christmas due to increasing COVID rates, our in-person church services will restart this Sunday (9th January) at 10:00! We would love to see you there as we join together in worship with each other again. Measures will be taken to keep each other safe, including everyone wearing masks where possible, having good ventilation (so wrap up warm!) and using the hand sanitiser at the entrances.
The band and songsters have been out carolling in churches, schools, and streets around the Canterbury area throughout December! Our last few carolling events are coming up this weekend! Saturday 18th December 10:00-13:00 - Carolling on Canterbury High Street (come and request your favourite carol!) Saturday 18th December 18:30 - Carols on the Green at Westbere Sunday 19th December 10:00 - 4th Sunday in Advent Service at the Salvation Army Friday 24th December 18:15 - Christmas Eve Carols in Rose Square
It was great to be back out on the High Street yesterday for the first time since March 2020! The band played carols for those passing by, and our collectors had some great conversations with members of the public. This week we will be at Bridge & Patrixbourne CEP School on Thursday for their carol concert, and then at Whitstable United Reformed Church on Friday evening, before we will be back on the High Street on Saturday morning from 10:00!
Sunday Worship - The Wise and Foolish Builders
Welcome to worship with Canterbury Salvation Army!
This week our meeting is based on the story that Jesus told in Matthew 7 of the wise and foolish men who were building their houses. Major Mark Herbert will be speaking on this story, and how it can impact on our lives today.
