We had a great time at Messy Church last weekend as we looked at how the Bible tells us to “praise the Lord” with trumpets, lutes, and harps, “let everything that has breath praise the Lord!”
The children made their own musical instruments, decorated cakes, and got the chance to play some of the instruments that our own brass band use to take part in worship every week.
Our next messy church is on Saturday 11th May at 15:00 - all are welcome!

”In his very nature he was God. Jesus was equal with God. But Jesus didn’t take advantage of that fact. Instead, he made himself nothing. He did this by taking on the nature of a servant. He was made just like human beings. He appeared as a man. He was humble and obeyed God completely. He did this even though it led to his death. Even worse, he died on a cross! So God lifted him up to the highest place. God gave him the name that is above every name. When the name of Jesus is spoken, everyone will kneel down to worship him. Everyone in heaven and on earth and under the earth will kneel down to worship him. Everyone’s mouth will say that Jesus Christ is Lord. And God the Father will receive the glory.”
Philippians 2:6-11

”“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
There is always something really affirming about sharing with another Corps when they visit. We have felt that this weekend with the visit of Southend Songsters to Canterbury. Through music ministry and joining together in worship and meals we have been really encouraged in our individual faith journeys. It is good to be together and it is good to share a message of reconciliation and hope through our music making. Thank you Southend Songsters for a great time and for sharing your talents with us. We look forward to our visit to you in September.
What a lovely evening sharing with Southend Songsters tonight. We look forward to them leading worship tomorrow at 10 am.
Are you joining us this evening for our Festival of Music?
Southend Citadel Salvation Army Songsters (choir) are on their way, and we are looking forward to the concert at 7pm!

WEDNESDAY 13 March – GROWING IN FAITH | Corps and centres on the move | Many officers and cadets will receive news of a geographical ‘move’ tomorrow as new appointments are announced. For corps and centres awaiting news of their future leadership, the move may not be geographical, but it is no less real. Pray today for corps and centres journeying towards a change in leadership; for peace and joy as they prepare for a new season. (Lyndall Bywater, UKI Boiler Room Team)
TUESDAY 12 March – SERVING AND CARING | Officers on the move | For officers expecting news of a change of appointment, there can be a host of changing emotions. It is good that we can trust in a God who goes before us, who follows us and who places his hand of blessing upon us (Psalm 139:5 NLT). Pray that all officers moving this year will experience the presence of God in this way, particularly as they receive news of their new appointments this week. (Lieut-Colonel Judith Payne, Principal, William Booth College)
We are looking forward to the visit from Southend Citadel Salvation Army Songsters (choir) who will be presenting a concert on Saturday 16th March!
Tickets are £5 on the door.
The Songsters will also be leading our morning worship on Sunday 17th and everyone is welcome to come along and join in praise!
