Urban-Vertical CIC
We are dedicated in empowering our community through food, education and wellbeing activities.
Today is National Eat Your Vegetables Day!!
We have been busy growing microgreens with pupils from Ysgol Y Deri and today was harvest day!
Pupils tucked in to Radish, Pink Kale, Broccoli and Red Cabbage noting how tasty their crops were, and how they were planning on incorporating them into their meals at home.
Microgreens are packed full of nutrition and grow extremely quickly and easily, perfect for the classroom or as a home activity.
If you would like to learn all about microgreens, their health benefits and how to grow them in your school or community group, please get in touch!

Oh yes! 😂
Today we celebrated the conclusion of our Urban Winter Walking project by bringing together all our collaborators at Penarth Library Maker Space for a sneak preview of our psychogeographical explorations of three popular walks in Penarth. The final dioramas will be exhibited from 22.03.24 The Hearth Gallery as part of our 2023-24 Space to Grow project with Arts for Health and Wellbeing
Over the course of 3 walks we engaged with over 25 walkers & explorers who all contributed towards our amazing outcomes.
Thank you to Ben from Think Differently, and Simon & Chloe from Maker Space Penarth
Thanks to Arts Council Wales for funding this valuable arts and health programme of activities.
These were the ingredients ready to be delivered to our lovely group of ladies from Women Connect First who joined us online this evening for our Friday Digital Dinner cook along session. Can you guess what delightful dish we created?
We are working in partnership with Arts for Health and Wellbeing with funding from Arts Council Wales and you can see more of the great work we’ve been involved in next month when our programme will be exhibited The Hearth Gallery at Llandough Hospital. We can’t wait!
How wonderful is this? We have been helping Ysgol Y Deri Special School set up an indoor vertical farm to help provide nutritious food to the local community and to provide valuable work experience for the pupils. They have done the most amazing job, and to celebrate their first harvest they donated all their microgreens to Grangetown Kitchen Garden to add to our weekly selection of food to support our community. Thank you Ysgol Y Deri Special School, you have truly made a lot of people happy today- and made their meals delicious and nutritious!! 🥰
Our Digital Dinners online cooking course kicked off this evening with ladies from Women Connect First
Everyone was given the same bag of ingredients, which included some of our market surplus foods, and we cooked together online. We were asked to recreate the recipes the group liked, but in a healthier way- so while we were cooking we discussed the food swaps we incorporated to make the dish more nutritious.
Our Digital Dinners course is run in partnership with Arts for Health and Wellbeing with funding from Arts Council Wales.
We deliver both leisure and accredited cooking and nutrition courses, and we have mobile cooking stations. So, if you are looking for an activity for your community group or private party, please drop us a message!
A fitting finale to the Songwriting for Wellbeing workshops today as part of the Arts Council of Wales funded project in collaboration with the Arts for Health & Wellbeing team.
Nobody believed we could write a song in 4 weeks, but we did and today we performed it in the garden at The Reach Centre in Grangetown, for passers by to hear.
We didn’t expect it to end this way- so we were all bursting with joy of our group achievement! 🙌
A few of our participants said they loved getting lost in making music because it was so peaceful - and we totally agree. If you hear 'Breakthrough' by The Cannateers on your radio soon, it was us 🙂
Huge thanks to everyone who took part. You are superstars 🌟
you are amazing! Fran from The Bay branch in Cardiff (our neighbours) heard about our market and has kindly donated food from their customer donations to our market this week. It has helped boost what we have been able to offer our community in our weekly market at
If you came to the market today and are enjoying the food, please remember the kindness of Morrisons and their customers who helped out!
We also want to thank the team at for being such a happy and helpful bunch of people. We love coming to collect our weekly supplies!
If you are a producer who can help our market with any surplus food you can’t sell, please get in touch to have a conversation. 💕
